Wingate & Finchley 1-1 Dulwich Hamlet

Wingate & Finchley 1-1 Dulwich Hamlet

Dulwich picked up a point but failed to end the winless run that has seen their promotion push falter.

A goal from Dean McDonald rescued a point for The Hamlet in a low key encounter that produced little flowing football from either side.

It took over a quarter of an hour for the first chance to be created as Preston Edwards produced a fine save from a header, punching the ball high into the air, and an even better tip over from the follow up; although he was not to know the player was offside.

Little was seen of Dulwich as an attacking force, with too many passes going astray and no real coherence in their play, until the 25th minute; Damian Scannell finding room to the left of goal but firing just too high.

A little more anticipation from The Hamlet would have resulted in a goal just 3 minutes later. A free kick was pumped into the box that looked to be the keeper's but, under challenge from Ryan Moss, he spilled the ball. However, all the Dulwich players around the box were caught on their heals and the ball was cleared.

Another chance came and went a minute later as the ball fell to Dean McDonald to the left of goal but his near post effort was pushed wide by Haigh in the home goal.

McDonald wasted another good chance in the 31st minute. Nyren Clunis drove into the box from the left and slipped the ball to McDonald some 10 yards out and just to the right of goal but he took a touch which allowed a defender to block his effort.

With half time approaching the home side's Ahmet Rifat headed wideallowing from a corner and Edwards made a comfortable low save following a sweeping move from the home side.

Half Time 0-0

The second half got off to another slow start but Dulwich should have done better with the first chance. Damien Scannell picked up the ball some 30 yards out and set off on a run that took him into the penalty area. However instead of shooting he tried to set up Ryan Moss who fired wide.

Dulwich then fell behind as Nyren Clunis turned inside on the half way line and was dispossessed, allowing the player to immediately run at a retreating defence. Gus Sow chased back but clumsily challenged from behind to give away a penalty.

Leon Fisher stepped up and just beat Preston Edwards dive low to the keeper's right and give the home side a 54third minute lead.

However, Dulwich levelled just 9 minutes later when Ryan Moss chased a long diagonal ball and squared for Dean McDonald to sweep his effort across the keeper and into the far corner.

Dulwich rang the changes and did most of the attacking as the half wore on but, other than anormal effort from Nyren Clunis that was palmed out by Haigh in the home goal, couldn't create any good scoring positions.

A poor clearance from Haigh only found Clunis but he wasted the chance, whilst a mix up between a defender and keeper almost fell for Scannell, but other than that the home defence snuffed out The Hamlet's efforts whilst equally failing to create anything of note.

Final Score 1-1
