Women's December Player of the Month
Polls are open to vote for your women's Player of the Month for December 2022
You can now vote for your women's Player of the Month for December.
There were only two games for the women's first team in December, with wildly contrasting fortunes. To start the month, we suffered a heavy defeat at Fulham, going down 3-0, but just a week later, a heavily depleted squad travelled to Dartford and came away with a sensational 2-0 victory to end 2022 on a hugely positive note.
Saskia Reeves-Priestley broke the Hamlet record of most consecutive appearances by a Hamlet goalkeeper during December, whilst a string of stunning saves repelled Dartford time and time again in the first half of our win at Princes Park. She has now kept more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in the league this season. Saskia Philp missed the defeat at Fulham but her performance at Dartford was described by Ryan Dempsey as her best of the season so far, as she won aerial duel after duel, and stretched the Dartford defence constantly during the second half.
Captain Brit Saylor was her usual combative self at Fulham without reward, before producing an excellent performance as a makeshift defender at Dartford, quelling Dartford attacks time and time again, before nonchalantly rolling in her second penalty of the season. No Hamlet player has scored more league goals than her this season. Finally, Ella Wales-Bonner was a rare bright spark off the bench at Fulham, before her Player of the Match performance at Dartford, where she led from the front in midfield, and scored her first goal in 15 months in the first half. Not finished there, it was her lung-busting run which led to our penalty late on, as she covered every blade of the 3G surface.
