Big game previewed
The 'Non League Paper' carried a preview of our big Trophy tie in their last edition
Here's what they had to say:
SMOKING HAMLET CAN DO A JOB ON BIG MACCDulwich Hamlet are describing it as their biggest game in decades-and defender Marc Weatherstone sees no reason why they can't cause another FA trophy upset when Maccelsfield Town come to town.
Ryman Premier Hamlet welcome the National League side and two-time Trophy winners on Saturday with a place in the semi-final up for grabs. Already Gavin Rose's side have beaten National League opposition in National League South Whitehawk before a 5-2 replay win against Step 1 outfit Braintree Town .
"Macclesfield are a huge team with a big history, and they've been in the Football League before," Weatherstone said. But if we're on song we can win. They won't look forward to coming down to us and we'll have a big fanbase behind us. You want to win any cup game you play in, but it means more in the Trophy. The final is at Wembley, you get the chance to play big teams from the National League, so it's exciting. We've got a great squad with boys who have played higher up. It's a one-off game and anything can happen. We're good enough, every single player is good enough to play in the National League. It's a chance to prove that to other people that we can hold our own."
Attendances at Champion Hill have been soaring in recent seasons, and this year their average league gate is 1,208 with a top crowd of 2,217.
Tickets are already selling quickly for this one and Weatherstone says the influence of the crowd can't be underestimated in big games. "They're loud and you expect that with the amount there are of them," Weatherstone said. "They are the 12th man and it does give you that extra ten per cent. They really get behind us. When we went to Whitehawk and won 4-1, the atmosphere in the bar after was amazing. It's like they're all overwhelmed by it all, they're excited and it's one of the best things to happen to the,. It makes you feel good. It was the same after we beat Braintree, so it's exciting for everyone involved."
