Billericay Town 4-1 Dulwich Hamlet

Billericay Town 4-1 Dulwich Hamlet

Dulwich were comprehensively beaten despite getting off to a good start and even the play offs are now seeming a long way off.

This result made it 6 league games without a win as an early lead evaporated through a mixture of poor defending and some questionable decisions from the officials.

Dulwich took the lead in the 6th minute. A cross from Nyren Clunis led to Billericay captain George Beavan clumsily bundling Ryan Moss over from behind; Ashley Carew just beating home keeper Giddins low to his right.

However Dulwich couldn't grow on their good start and Billericay were level in the 15th minute. The ball was lost in the centre of the field and quickly transferred forward to Derry who found Cox to his left and, with no Dulwich defender in sight, he comfortably beat Preston Edwards.

Dulwich went back on the attack and Moss had an effort saved, whilst nobody could seize on the confusion caused by a Clunis cross and McDonald scuffed a volley from Carew's pass.

Dulwich should have had a second spot kick when McDonald combined with Moss and was brought down from behind, and within a minute he had awarded a second penalty but this time to the home side. Poole delivered a free kick into the box where the referee adjudged that a forward had been impeded. Poole easily beat Edwards from the spot.

With two minutes to half time, Dulwich thought they had levelled matters. Danny Waldren scored from an Ashley Carew corner but, with the referee well positioned to see everything and having indicated a goal, his assistant raised his flag to indicate an infringement and the strike was disallowed.

Half Time 2-1

Edwards produced a good save from a Derry header before the game had its decisive moment in the 53rd minute.

The ball reared up off the rutted and uneven playing surface and struck Jordan Hibbert. To everybody's astonishment, the referee deemed that he had handled and pointed to the spot. Danny Waldren clearly had something to say to the official and found himself sent off for his comments, although he was adamant afterwards that he did not swear at him.

With Poole having been substituted, it was Cox who took the spot kick and just beat Edwards low to his right.

Morville delivered a couple of crosses from the right that could have led to further goals before Cox got on to a long ball over the top to add a fourth and complete his hat trick.

As Dulwich tried to find a response, Dean McDonald struck the post with a shot on the turn and, with 9 minutes left, Damian Scannell accelerated towards goal and was clearly brought down. However, the referee somehow came to the decision that he had dived and cautioned him.

Final Score 4-1
