Bury Town 1-2 Dulwich Hamlet

Bury Town 1-2 Dulwich Hamlet

Dulwich made it through to the last 32 of the FA Trophy with a hard fought win in difficult conditions at Bury Town.

With Osei Sankofa injured and Dan Sweeney departed, Mitchell Nelson was restored to right back and Damian Scannell came into the starting line-up. Jordan Hibbert also started with Rhys Murrell-Williamson on the bench.

It was Bury who opened much the brighter and they had a couple of efforts well off target in the opening minutes. They could easily have been in front when Phil Wilson miskicked a 5th minute back pass but the Dulwich defence got back to deal with the danger. Bury went close again in the 7th minute as their captain Phil Weavers put a free header from a corner wide.

However, it was Dulwich who came closest to taking the lead in the 11th minute. Damian Scannell picked up the ball some 25 yards out and fired a shot that beat Neil O'Sullivan in the home goal high to his right but bounced out off the post.

The game then settled down into an even contest as Dulwich began to exert control over proceedings. Ryan Moss went close with a diving header at the near post following a cross from Hibbert. Moss also delivered a good cross but Nyren Clunis scuffed his volley.

Bury were able to exert pressure on the Dulwich back four each time they gained a throw in anywhere in the Dulwich half through the long throws of De'ath but these failed to yield any clear opportunities.

The Hamlet took the lead in the 36th minute with a goal from Nyren Clunis. Ashley Carew found Ryan Moss and he then played the ball out to Clunis on the left. He then cut in and fired a rght foot shot into the far corner via a slight deflection.

Clunis had another chance two minutes later but his run from inside his own half finished with a weak shot that O'Sullivan saved with ease.

Half Time 0-1

The second half saw Dulwich have the elements in their favour which enabled them to keep the ball in the Bury half. Mitchell Nelson fired too high soon after the break before a neat move saw them double the lead in the 56th minute. Nyren Clunis was the provider as he played a beautifully weighted ball in behind the Bury defence for Ryan Moss who slipped the ball past the advancing O'Sullivan.

However, Bury weren't about to accept their fate. Jordan Brown just got back to reach a through pass that looked like it would split the Dulwich defence open. Then a header rattled the bar following another De'ath long throw.

At the other end, O'Sullivan made a good stop from an Ashley Carew free kick before Ryan Moss could have put the game to bed; but just failed to reach alow cross from the left by Damian Scannell.

Instead it was Bury who would make sure it would be a nervous end to the game. Rhys Murrell-Williamson lost the ball 30 yards out and the ball was quickly transferred to Cemal Ramadan who beat Wilson with a cross shot.

However, the grandstand finish never materialised as Dulwich held the home side at bay with sensible football that left most of the game being played in the Bury half. In fact, Dulwich will feel they should have had a stoppage time penalty when Rhys Murrell-Williamson had his legs whipped away from him when cutting inside in the box.

Final Score 1-2
