Canvey Island 0-1 Dulwich Hamlet
Dulwich booked themselves a home tie with Brentwood Town in the next round of the FA Youth Cup.
The Hamlet youngsters completed a fairly routine single goal victory which with steadier finishing could have been more.
Joshua Silvera headed just too high early on after good work from Ramell Lake as Dulwich took an early grip on the game; maintaining possession for long periods and moving the home side around.
However, Canvey did look dangerous when they briefly had possession and they had the best early chance as a ball was threaded in behind the back four but the forward was unable to hit the target.
The next chance for either side was to yield the only goal as a well worked short corner routine saw a cross delivered that Silvera rose unchallenged to plant beyond the keeper.
Dulwich continued to enjoy the majority of possession but were indebted to Oshane Brown for a couple of fine stops when Canvey did get a glimpse of goal; firstly advancing to make a good save after the defence had been caught square by a long ball forward and then two fine blocks from close range as half-time approached.
The second half followed a very similar pattern of possession and chances with Emiliano Hysi latching on to a long ball forward and creating space on the left to cut back to Ramell Lake, whose shot was dragged wide when well placed.
Chances came and went for Dulwich as a shot was pushed out by the keeper but the follow up was blazed over. In one sequence of play a ball over the top saw the keeper advance to the edge of his box to block, the when the ball was returned to the centre of the area he got back to hack the ball off the line.
Further good saves by the Canvey custodian made sure that the game would remain tense until the end and a Ramell Lake shot hit the crossbar before, after a lengthy injury time period, the final whistle arrived.
