Community News
The latest on our community work from yesterday's programme. Remember any organisation can get free family tickets to any home league game.
Afternoon, today you may have noticed our food bank collection table. If you missed it, please have a look at http://wimbledon.foodbank.org.uk – the local bank we are supporting today.
Last week, we attended a National League meeting where we were presented with a number of community funding opportunities. As a member club, we are entitled to apply to finance projects that show innovation and creativity, to ultimately benefit the wider community. There is also the chance for local schools to represent Dulwich Hamlet in a tournament against other National League clubs, with the final taking place at Wembley.
The meeting did bring home the difficulty that we face in developing projects or funding ideas with the on-going uncertainty of being away from our home. It is therefore important that the projects we engage with have a longer term purpose and are not just ‘one offs’. That is why we have continued some of Mishi’s initiatives such as the foodbank collection. In case you are wondering, the next collection will be on behalf of Southwark foodbanks and I have been informed that Tooting will also be doing another, for Merton, at an upcoming home match.
We would like to hear from organisations (in both of our communities) who would be interested in discussing potential collaboration for funded projects. The National League is particularly interested in partnership work and it can strengthen our application if we can draw on the expertise and knowledge of other stakeholders. Contact us using the details below and we can provide some more context and details about what is on offer.
Separately, we are working with our official charity partner, Redthread to enhance awareness of the serious youth violence that is affecting our young people. We are hoping to announce details of an event soon, (tied in to a home match) where you will be able to find out more about the work they do.
