Community Notes - St Albans City

Community Notes - St Albans City

Community lead Rob Hyneman had the following to say in our programme against St Albans City on Saturday

Hello and welcome to Champion Hill!

After 1,484 of us enjoyed a fabulous evening under the lights on Tuesday, today we welcome St Albans to East Dulwich.

Last season, the community work and match day fundraising of Dulwich Hamlet Football Club raised over £6,500 for charity. This included fundraising of over £5000 for our official charity partner Redthread. We welcomed nearly 1,000 school children and their families through turnstiles as part of our free tickets for schools scheme and gave over 100 children the opportunity to be a match day mascot and lead the players out onto the turf of Champion Hill.

It is important to remember that all of this was achieved playing less than half our home games at home. With 21 home league games and hopefully a few cup matches, we’re really excited about what we could achieve this year from a community perspective.

One of the first stages of this has been looking at how we structure our community work moving forward. During the summer, we have formed an official Dulwich Hamlet community charity. This charity, working very closely with the football club, will act as the umbrella for all our community work this season.

This not only allows us to hopefully fundraise even more for local projects and charities but also opens up a number of potential funding streams which can be used for the benefit of our local community. We are just in the process of finalising the registration of the charity and will announce all the details (including the name) in due course. This is indeed a very exciting time for the community arm of the club!

Player Mascots Wanted!

Do you know someone who would like to be a player mascot at a Dulwich Hamlet home game? We are always looking for children or groups of children to walk out with the team at Champion Hill. We believe that you cannot put a price on children having the opportunity to experience live football and be part of their community club – so we haven’t! The cost of being a player mascot is absolutely free! We currently have spaces for all the Men’s team home games and the following Women’s team home games:

18th August – v Aylesford (League)
8th September – v QPR (League Cup)
13th October – v Saltdean (League)
3rd November – Eastbourne (League)

Before I sign off, please remember to support the planning application for Dulwich Hamlet’s new stadium. If we want our club to continue to thrive and flourish as a community asset, we need every single fan to support this application. I encourage you, if you have not already done so, to log onto the Southwark Planning website and show your support for this application. This is our chance, after all the ups and downs of the last few years, to secure a long term future for Dulwich Hamlet. For more information about the application, please visit the club website or email - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

As always, thank you for your fantastic support and I hope you enjoy the game!
