CRAY WANDERERS 5-1 DULWICH HAMLET
A Dulwich squad side suffered a defeat as Cray scored four goals in 16 minutes either side of half time.
The first 40 minutes of the game offered no clues as to its eventual outcome as Dulwich dominated possession and moved the ball comfortably from back to front.
During this period the best chances all fell to The Hamlet as they pushed forward. Abdul Mansaray was causing problems on the right and Xavier Vidal was pulling the strings in midfield.
The two efforts that threatened to yield an opening goal were both Vidal's as he was set free on goal and just as he pulled his foot back to shoot his heel was clipped by a covering defender. He tried to stay upright but the chance had now passed. However, the referee failed to award what even the Cray keeper acknowledged was a clear penalty.
The next chance saw a Vidal free kick fumbled by the keeper who managed to get back and scramble the ball away from on the line.
However, Cray gained the lead in 40 minutes as a cross field pass was miscontrolled by Marc-Anthony Okoye which left Elyon Marshall-Katung with a free run on goal and he finished confidently.
Half Time 1-0
The second half was only 3 minutes in when Jason Henry extended the lead, heading home a cross from the Hamlet left. Four minutes later came goal number three as Danny Hughes beat Phil Wilson to a through ball and lifted it over his head and into the unguarded net.
In 56 minutes it was 4-0 as a deflected shot looped over Wilson and struck the bar; Hughes reacting quickest to turn it home. The final Cray goal scored in the 74th minute was the best, as Jack Sherratt struck a terrific long-range shot that beat Wilson.
Substitute Joshua Silvera should have done better than fire straight at the keeper when through on goal and as the clock ran down Dulwich did finally find the net.
A Gerry Gonnella free kick was deflected into the path of Kristian Campbell who slammed it home from 10 yards out.
The return of Gerry Gonnella after over two and a half years out of the game was a welcome sight for Hamlet fans on a disappointing night for the squad members who failed to grab their chance to impress.
