Did THEY mean US?

Did THEY mean US?

It's that time of week when we look at what the opposition thought of our matches

Last Saturday we defeated Shoreham in the FA Cup, here at Champion Hill. This is report is from their website.

FA Cup for Mussels
(by Stuart Slaney)

SHOREHAM made their way to Dulwich by coach not really expecting to upset Dulwich but hoping that they would have an off day and we would be flying but that was just a dream which is what the FA Cup is made off.
All we can say is that we came up against a really good side and they proceded to beat us 6-0 with a young Turkish man (Erhon Oztumer) in midfield who literally ran the game until substituted in the second half. He looked too good for the level he is playing at but they also had several excellent young players on show.
Another young player Nyren Clunis broke the deadlock in the 14th minute and before the next score Josh Heyburn was called on the make two excellent saves but in the 23rd minute he could only watch as the ball sailed past him into the net from a 25 yard shot from Xavier Vidal. In the 32nd minute a foul in the box saw the diminutive Turkish destroyer step and score from the spot. He wasn’t finished yet as on 35 minutes he whipped in a free-kick from 25 yards to make the half-time score 4-0.
Brian O’Toole made some changes at half-time and it seemed to improve things for a while. The fifth goal arrived on 58 minutes as an Erhun Oztumer corner saw Mathieu Boyer rise highest to head home.
Xavier Vidal had a stinging drive well saved by Josh Heyburn and Erhun Oztumer forced another save before the same player hit a dipping drive just over the bar. It was sub Ian Daly who added goal number six in the 77th minute as fellow substitute Abdul Manseray’s shot was spilled by the keeper and Ian Daly followed up to take it round the keeper and finish into the empty net. Ahmed Deen then fired wide before Shoreham created their one clear chance on 79 minutes as Josh Clack delivered a cross from the right that the onrushing Elliot Quant met firmly but could only head over the top, the rest of the half was played out with no more goals.
Final score: Dulwich Hamlet 6 Shoreham 0.

On Wednesday we hosted Faversham Town, in the Isthmian Charity Shield. Our first appearance in this competition...and our first victory! Here is the report from their website:

Faversham pay the penalty as Dulwich win Shield

A Dulwich Hamlet penalty in either half proved to be the difference, as they beat Faversham 3-1 to win the Ryman Charity Shield. The home side took the lead on 10 minutes when Ian Daly converted the first spot-kick of the night. Hamlet doubled their advantage in the second period with Kevin James directing a wonderful Ellis Green cross in. The Lilywhites were playing better than the 2-0 score line suggested and deservedly pulled a goal back on the 70th minute. Wayne Wilson blasting a spot-kick of his own past Phil Wilson in Dulwich's goal. However, the destination of the Charity Shield was decided two minutes later. Referee Mr Neil Davies awarding a controversial third penalty of the evening, which Marcel Henry-Francis slotted home.

The game got off to a lively start with both teams having opportunities in the opening five minutes. Ahmed Deen shooting wide from close range on the 3rd minute before Renford Tenyue broke through the home defense and shot at Phil Wilson a minute later. The hosts had been given a debatable penalty, once Green had gone to ground after a Michael Jenner challenge. Away keeper Simon Overland guessed the right way, but, was unable to stop Daly's strike.

Faversham responded well to falling behind and almost drew level on 21 minutes. Darren Marsden feeding Wayne Wilson, who forced a fine save from namesake Phil. 11 minutes later, a loose ball sat up kindly for Jenner. The midfielder hitting his 25 yard drive cleanly, although, the ball flashed wide of the right-hand post. In the minx of the away team's dominance Henry-Francis did manage to test Overland with a weak effort. The visitors slightly unlucky to be behind at the interval.

The Lilywhites began the second half well. Danny Hockton and Tenyue both going close to equalising. Hockton forcing a low save from Phil Wilson and Tenyue nodding wide when he should have hit the target. But, Hamlet made the away side rue their missed chances and extended their lead on 59 minutes, as substitute James got on the end of a Green cross.

Faversham brought themselves back into the contest when Wayne Wilson converted a penalty after Tenyue had been sent flying by Okoye. However, the home side restored their two goal cushion, as Referee Mr Neil Davies awarded yet another spot-kick after a melee in the area. Henry-Francis sending Overland the wrong way from 12 yards. There was still time for substitute Kieran Oliver to shoot inches over and Tenyue to blast good opportunity straight at Phil Wilson. Though, the Lilywhites weren't able to mount a second serious comeback and were forced to settle for their second runner-up medals in four months after their Ryman South Play-off defeat to Maidstone United last season.
