Don't you wish your keeper coach was Phil Wilson
During our summer reset we reflected on the importance of having people in and around the club who understood what the pink and blue meant to fans and after six seasons at the Hamlet across two spells there are few people better placed than goalkeeping legend Phil Wilson to join Mark Dacey's coaching staff.
On making his long awaited return to Champion Hill Phil had this to say: "I’m very excited to be back. Dulwich Hamlet is a very special place for me. it’s certainly the place I enjoyed my football the most but also where I was at my best as well. Since leaving Beckenham Town I’ve had a few opportunities to get back involved, but nothing felt right.
However when Mark and JR reached out there was no way I could say no. I’m looking forward to be part of Mark’s coaching team and to work with Toby, who I’ve been very impressed with both at the start and this season and during his time at Lewes is well. Im also looking forward to seeing some familiar faces at the weekend, no doubt some new ones too."
Mark Dacey added this as Phil joined the team for training last night: "It's amazing to have Phil in with us. He's a real club legend. He’s going to bring real valuable experience for Toby and the younger GKs we have training with the group. It’s nice to have another part of the clubs culture return home."
Phil was an integral part of our Isthmian South East title winning side which also featured Jr James. During his time at Champion Hill Phil became a cult hero and is fondly remembered by those who watched the Hamlet during that period.
Everyone at Dulwich Hamlet Football Club looks forward to welcoming Phil home and working with him as the 25/26 season progresses.
