Dulwich Hamlet 0-2 Bromley
At a sunny Champion Hill, The Hamlet slipped to defeat in their opening outing of the season against a strong Bromley side.
A Dulwich line up that contained only 3 of last season's regulars succumbed to a Bromley side that look well equipped to challenge at the top of Conference South again.
With a new look line up, and against a team with an outing already behind them, it was no surprise that the visitors were much quicker into their stride.
Whilst both aides were neat and tidy in possession, it was the visitors who carried the greater threat as they were able to quickly spring into attack. It was no surprise when they took a 15th minute lead as neat interchanges opened up the home defence for full back Sam Long to score emphatically past Inigo Echepare in the Hamlet goal.
Adam Birchall went close for Bromley on 20 minutes before a fine cross from the left was headed home by the unmarked Danny Waldren.
Ex Hamlet player Damien Scannell then brought a fine save out of Echeapare before the home side finally penetrated the visitors defence. A fine cross from Nyren Clunis was unconvincingly palmed out in front of goal by Seb Brown in the Bromley goal and he was fortunate that it struck a retreating defender and rolled back into his arms.
Half Time 0-2
The second half opened in similar fashion, with Bromley unable to take advantage of a couple of free kick opportunities around the penalty area.
Dulwich then felt they should have had a penalty as Dean McDonald was fouled just inside the box but the referee surprised everybody by awarding a free kick a matter of inches outside.
At the other end Bromley also had a good shout for a spot kick as Echepare seemed to bring down Scannell as he looked to create a scoring chance.
There then followed the usual raft of substitutions that tend to disjoint the flow of the game. However, the young Dulwich replacements acquitted themselves well and there were some fluent movements that revolved primarily around Academy graduate, Emiliano Hysi.
There were also some solid performances for Dulwich amongst their more experienced players, with Xavier Vidal & Ashley Carew particularly prominent.
Final Score 0-2
