Dulwich Hamlet 1-1 Leiston

Dulwich Hamlet 1-1 Leiston

Another two points dropped as Leiston escaped with a draw in a game that Dulwich dominated almost from first whistle to last.

Dulwich were quickly on the attack and Damian Scannell set up a good chance for Nyren Clunis in only the second minute but he scuffed his shot wide.

However, despite all their attacking Dulwich fell behind in the 9th minute as slack defending saw Gareth Heath left alone just inside the penalty area and he rifled his shot past Phil Wilson high to his left. Leiston then had a chance as Billy Clark was let down by a poor touch after a swift counter attack.

Dulwich will wonder how they failed to level the scores in the 12th minute when a Nyren Clunis cross was headed back by Rhys Murrell-Williamson and Ryan Moss somehow put his header wide.

It was all Dulwich and both Clunis & Carew had efforts deflected wide, whilst Carew also fired just too high. Damian Scannell was involved in a lot of the good things Dulwich produced and he twisted and turned his way past a number of challenges but couldn't find a finish.

However Leiston still looked dangerous on the break and Heath & Finch both had efforts, the former's blocked and the latter foiled by Phil Wilson racing off his line.

Just as it seemed Leiston would get to the break ahead, Nyren Clunis levelled the score in the 45th minute. Receiving the ball on the edge of the box, he switched it on to his right foot and fired low past Jones in the visitors goal.

In fact Dulwich could have scored a second in stoppage time but Jones saved from Scannell after more good work from Clunis

Half Time 1-1

The second half quickly developed into a carbon copy of the first. Ryan Moss was just wide with a 50th minute volley from an Ashley Carew cross, although Dulwich were unable to turn possession into clear chances.

In fact, Finch had a good chance for the visitors on the hour but he couldn't get enough elevation on his chip to beat Wilson.

Clunis had another effort just too high and substitute Dean McDonald had two efforts saved in quick succession. Jones produced a good save from Carew's free kick and a brilliant stop from a Ryan Moss header as Dulwich pressed for a winner. Scannell had an effort blocked and Jordan Brown snatched at a good chance.

As time ran down and Dulwich pushed on relentlessly in search of the second goal they left gaps at the back that both Finch & Dunbar could have exploited, although equally The Hamlet could have snatched a winner as two efforts were blocked in a goalmouth scramble.
