Dulwich Hamlet 1-2 Hampton & Richmond Borough
A super showing from keeper Preston Edwards was the positive to take from the game, as he produced a series of brilliant saves.
A Dulwich side much closer to the perceived strongest line up were beaten by an impressive performance from the visitors, despite an inspired display from keeper Preston Edwards.
An early chance saw Edwards thwart two efforts as Dulwich were distinctly second best. As a result it was no surprise when the visitors took the lead in the 15th minute through Harry Crawford. A free kick into the penalty area was headed down and Crawford swept the ball past Edwards,
Dulwich finally created a good chance in the 26th minute but Ralph Kottoy blazed over when it looked easier to score.
Within a minute Chinua Cole had skipped through the Dulwich defence but was denied by Edwards. He then saved one on one as Crawford drove through the heart of the defence.
Much against the run of play, Dulwich almost levelled in the 31st minute. Jeff Goulding linked with Nathan Green who then advanced into the penalty area but his effort struck the post and bounced wide off a covering defender.
Preston Edwards then raced out to thwart Trey Williams as he was clear through on goal before Dulwich pulled themselves level with 5 minutes to half time. A cross from the right was half cleared to Nathan Green who fired home, despite the attempts of a defender trying to clear.
Half Time 1-1
The second half saw no change as Preston Edwards produced another magnificent save to keep out a Ryan Moss header from point blank range in the 49th minute.
Dulwich then came close to taking an undeserved lead but Sam Bowes produced a fine diving save from a Marc Weatherstone header.
Hampton & Richmond made wholesale changes, introducing a stronger line up just past the hour. However they actually created less chances. Max Kretzschmar headed wide when well placed at the far post whilst, for Dulwich, Nyren Clunis linked with Dumebi Dumaks but a block took the power from his effort and Bishop saved easily.
Hampton grabbed the winner their performance deserved with 10 minutes remaining. Despite a clear handball in the build up, play was allowed to continue and Brendan Kiernan was able to tuck home a low cross from inside the six yard box.
