Dulwich Hamlet 2-3 Charlton Athletic

Dulwich Hamlet 2-3 Charlton Athletic

Dulwich lost narrowly to a strong Charlton Athletic side but the performance bode well for the season ahead.

It was Dulwich that had the upper hand early on and visiting keeper Dimitar Mitov had to make a good 6th minute save from a Nyren Clunus header. Dulwich thought they should have had a 13th minute penalty as Jacob Erskine apun Andrey Bikey on the edge of the box and seemed to be brought down.

Charlton took the lead with their first real attack as Joe Aribo got away from Ethan Pinnock to fire past the advancing Phil Wilson.

Underteered by this setback, Dulwich dominated possession for the remainder of the half but were unable to create any clear cut chances against a robust Charlton defence.

It was much against the run of play when Charlton doubled their lead two minutes before half time. A blocked shot found its way to Johnnie Jackson and he struck a fine effort into the top corner.

Half Time 0-2

Dulwich pressed the visitors back at the start of the second half and four minutes after the break Nyren Clunus curled a fine shot that beat Mitov but struck the post. The same player also saw a 51st minute effort deflected just wide.

Phil Wilson made his first serious save as he topped over a Vetokele volley from the edge of the box.

Jacob Erskine had a clear sight of goal but fired wide before Charlton added a third in the 68th minute as a fine cross from their right was converted at the far post by the onrushing Jake Sinclair.

Dulwich had a goal back 2 minutes later as Damian Scannell drove into the box and was bundled over. Ashley Carew converted from the spot. Dulwich almost had a second six minutes later as Matt Drage & Kevin James both failed to get a touch to a ball in from the left.

Dulwich did get a second goal with 3 minutes remaining as a pass from Danny Waldren split the Charlton defence and found Jamie Mascoll breaking clear on the right. He took one touch to control the ball before finishing with aplomb.
