Fancy a stroll in the park...
Well not quite a stroll, but if you are OVER FIFTY then you could play for The Hamlet against Enfield Town next week
Dulwich Hamlet supporters have been invited to form a 'walking football' team to take on their counterparts from the E's next Saturday lunchtime, Saturday 2nd Decemberbefore the 'big boys' battle it out in the Bostik League Premier Division clash at three o'clock.
Now if you're like myself, you probably know very little about the latest football phenomenon that is walking football, so Ramdan Ishmail from Enfield Town explains:
"Firstly we would propose everyone met in our stadium bar for 11.30am to get the pre- Match Chat (rules etc) then shown to the changing rooms. Kick off would be at 12.00noon on our new 3G pitch outside the ground. We had 18 Walking Footballers participating last time (last week) so could arrange a round robin 5-a-side . Qualifying players have to be 50 years old or above. The rules-are basically 5-a-side rules with 3 subs allowed for any format of 5-6-7 a-side. There's no physical contact & no tackling or running at anytime. As well as this only goalkeeper allowed in the penalty box.And games can range from 5 to 25 Minutes each way (decided between the days participants) "
He concluded:
"We ask each participant to pay £5 towards the cost of hiring the pitch. Balls, bibs, referees will all be provided. It's all about having a bit of pre-match fun, and keeping fit for older fans, without even realising it!"
Al Crane, although too young to play himself, has volunteered to co-ordinate any potential Hamlet squad for this, so if this appeals to you then drop him an email to
Football Committee member Mishi Morath said:
"As one of the founders of the old Dulwich Hamlet Supporters' Team way back in 1989, this sounds great. I'm gutted to be stuck at work, so will miss it, but i'm sure some of us older ones will recall some great 11-a-side supporters games with the old Enfield FC supporters side, home and away, in the mid-Nineties. I've even heard a rumour that our Football Committee Chairman Liam Hickey might be interested..."
