Farewell Fisher

They came to Champion Hill as high-flying Fisher Athletic, imploded, and re-formed as supporter-owned Fisher FC

They will readily admit they have been stuck in East Dulwich for far too long, but now THE FISH are going home, having played their last home game at Champion Hill on Saturday, when they drew one apiece with Canterbury City in a Southern South East Counties League match.

For those of you who don't follow the lower reaches of non-league this is what used to be known as the Kent League for many years.

They were formed in 2009, to take over the mantle of the old Fisher Athletic outfit, who went out of existence, and were placed in the Kent League.

It's been a bit of a struggle for them ever since, if truth be told, but hopes are high as they finally have a new stadium ready for next season in their old Rotherhithe heartland in Salter Road, a proverbial stones-throw from the old Fisher Athletic base of the now demolished Surrey Docks Stadium.

Many of our current fans may not realise this, but on more than occasion, under previous regimes here at Dulwich Hamlet, it was only their generous advance of rent money, before they were due to pay it, kept the 'wolf from the door' on several occasions...and that should not be forgotten.

We wish them well back home where they belong, and hope they had a reasonable enough time in East Dulwich whilst pining for SE16.

Hopefully it won't be too many years before they have established a real community base in Rotherhithe & Bermondsey and Southwark will once more see two strong sides representing them in the north and the south of the borough.
