A look at the papers once more...

A look at the papers once more...

In case you missed all of the Hamlet news in the printed press over the last seven days here's what you missed:

Starting off with Sunday 17th April, the ‘Non League Paper’ carried a report on our final home game of the season, against Lewes, the day before:

HAMLET CLOSE IN ON FIFTH

Dulwich edged to the brink of the play-offs with this narrow victory over battling Lewes in front of the season’s best crowd of 2,467 at Champion Hill.
One point from next week’s trip to Needham Market should be enough to clinch fifth place for Gavin Rose’s team.
Surprisingly, relegated Lewes had the better of the first half, yet they turned around two goals down.
Hamlet’s Preston Edwards was the busier keeper, saving from both Jonte Smith and Steve Brinkhurst.
But Dulwich struck twice just before half-time. In the 40th minute Dipo Akinyemi’s cross was forced in by Nyren Clunis at the second attempt.
Then, in stoppage time, Mitchell Nelson crossed to the far post for Ethan Pinnock to head home.
Hamlet almost scored a third shortly after the interval when Kevin James aimed a header towards the top corner, but Rooks keeper Chris Winterburn produced a wonderful flying save.
Lewes reduced the arrears ten minutes from time to set up a nervy finish for the Hamlet faithful.
Edwards made a fine save from James Hammond but Dulwich failed to clear the resulting corner and Charles Coppola netted with a fierce shot from 18 yards.

Last Tuesday the midweek edition of the ‘South London Press’ also had promotion related headlines:

Dulwich boost play-off prospects

Dulwich Hamlet tightened their grip on a Ryman Premier play-off spot with a convincing 2-1 win against Lewes in their final home game of the season.
Goals from Nyren Clunis and captain Ethan Pinnock, who made his 200th appearance for the club, were enough to seal the win for the South Londoners in front of a 2,000-plus crowd.
It was fifth-placed Dulwich who broke the deadlock. Dipo Akinyemi bombed into the opposition box and crossed for Clunis to scramble home in the 37th minute. Another dangerous Akinyemi cross enabled the home side to extend their lead with Pinnock heading at the far post just before half-time.
Dulwich were in control and had chances to increase their tally with Kevin James’s headed effort producing a fine save from the Rooks keeper.
Against the run of play Charlie Coppola reduced the visitors’ deficit with a thumping shot. Hamlet face Needham Market away on Saturday.

On Thursday, unsurprisingly, the weekly ‘Southwark News’ was all about play-off talk as well:

HAMLET NEED POINT TO MAKE PLAY OFFS

Dulwich Hamlet need just one point from this weekend’s game against Needham Market to make the end of season play offs.
Hamlet’s promotion chances from the Ryman Premier Division seemed to be ebbing away since Christmas but their current six game unbeaten run means Dulwich are in pole position to take one of the four play off positions.
Only Enfield Town can deny them and they must defeat table toppers Hampton & Richmond Borough this weekend and hope the Pink and Blues fall to defeat against their Suffolk opposition.
If Hamlet draw and Enfield win Dulwich should prevail as they have a vastly superior goal difference to Town.
Pink and Blues boss Gavin Rose expects a tough game against Needham, who need points themselves to avoid the drop.
The Dulwich manager told the News: “The boys have overcome a lot of obstacles in the last few weeks and they deserve credit for that. This Saturday will be another difficult game as Needham Market need to win. We will be going for the win, but if it turns out a draw is enough we will take it. We want to go into that semi-final with a win so that is what we will be playing for on Saturday.”
Rose added that for one of the few times this season he has a full squad to pick from this weekend.
Goals from Nyren Clunis and Ethan Pinnock were enough for Hamlet to see off Lewes 2-1 last weekend, a Champion Hill fixture played in front of a crowd of 2,467 people.
And, to complete the round-up from last week, here’s the weekend reporting from Friday’s ‘South London Press’:

PLAY-OFFS IN SIGHT

Dulwich Hamlet captain Ethan Pinnock believes the South Londoners will make it through to the play-offs if they play as well as they can, against Needham Market tomorrow.
Hamlet returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 2-1 home victory over Lewes-a game in which Pinnock scored what proved to be the winning goal-meaning victory tomorrow will guarantee them a play-off place.
Victory came after an eight-game winless run in February and March, and coincided with Pinnock’s return from a lengthy injury lay-off and the restoration of his centre-back partnership with Matt Drage.
The 22-year-old, who works as a PE coach in primary schools and is studying for a sports degree at the University of Greenwich, has evolved into a defensive lynchpin for Dulwich.
Tomorrow Dulwich will face a Needham side fighting relegation following their 3-0 loss to Enfield last weekend.
Pinnock said: “The injury came quite unexpectedly as I had played so many games without any kind of problem. I was out for about six weeks and when I made my first team return it still felt a bit stiff. I hurt my groin when I was shielding the ball out for a throw-in and I got nudged in the back. I’m still not completely 100 per cent, but as I play more games I’m starting to feel stronger. I’m very confident we can make it to the play-offs. We have a great bunch of lads and if everyone plays to their level and to the manager’s instructions I think we will be fine.”
Pinnock, who made his 200th appearance for the club last weekend, is enjoying his role as club captain and his centre-back partnership with Matt Drage.
Alongside Drage and his team mates, Pinnock has helped Dulwich to regain their momentum and a grip on a place in the play-offs. Club boss Gavin Rose regards the centre-back pairing as the team’s “ideal” defensive partnership.
Pinnock added: “It was great to play my 200th game for the club. It is a great achievement for me at this age. All in all I thought the boys did well against Lewes, although we have played better this season. There was a lot of expectation and pressure going into the game but we managed to compose ourselves and hold on for the win. When Dragey and I play together we don’t concede many goals. We haven’t had many clean sheets but we don’t give away too many goals. It’s usually just the odd one. I think we are improving as we play more games together. Both of us could talk a bit more when we are out there on the pitch, but we are both young centre-backs and we can just get on with it.”
Rose said he is expecting a tough away match against Needham but is confident that, if they are at their best, the game will go in his team’s favour.
“They need a win to stay in the league so it becomes another tough game. If we can get through that we will then get into the semi-finals of the play-offs. We just have to handle our business and not worry about the teams around us.”
