From Goodrich Road to Champion Hill!

From Goodrich Road to Champion Hill!

Tomorrow we hope for a mini-invasion from Goodrich School, who are guests of our Club against Enfield Town FC

Tomorrow we will be extending a very warm Hamlet welcome to children from Goodrich Primary School, East Dulwich. Everyone at the school have been given a family flyer that will allow their family and friends to attend the game with them for free. This is part of an ongoing community initiative by the Dulwich Hamlet Football Committee to reach out to local schools and further build on the fantastic links the club has with our community.

Indeed, if you have a contact a local school-primary or secondary- or any sort of local group, be it adult, youth or child based, we would love to offer a taste of Champion Hill in our ongoing community initiative to grow our crowds. Simply email our Community Initiatives Officer from the Dulwich Hamlet Football Committee, Mishi Morath, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. & he will get back to you, offering some one-off tickets to a future home Ryman League match.

Goodrich School has a very special link with Dulwich Hamlet Football Club as it was attended by none other than Hamlet legend Edgar Kail, who has the distinction of being the last non league player to turn out for the full England team whilst solely with an amateur club, in the 1929. Edgar, of course, has the approach road to our stadium named after him, and won more England amateur international caps than any other past Dulwich Hamlet player, as well as being our record goalscorer, both in an individual season & over his career.

More recently, the school’s current PE teacher Mr Lennie Dennis used to play for the club in the 1980's, when he was affectionately known to the fans as 'Spock', before moving to Sutton United, where he was part of the Sutton side that famously knocked Coventry City out of the FA Cup in 1989 in a giant killing that is still the talk of their terraces today.

Dulwich Hamlet Football Committee Community spokesperson Mishi Morath said:
" Linking up with local schools is something we try to do, but to be honest, not often enough. If any Hamlet fans out there would like free tickets for a future match to be handed out to their kids' own schools we're happy to arrange this for anywhere in our South London catchment area."

He went on: "This is just one of our many community initiatives that we try on a regular basis, season after season. I know what we do is recognised & appreciated by the powers-that-be at the Ryman League, who like ourselves are proud in our ongoing growth in attendances. Hopefully other clubs will look at some of the stuff we do & try to incorporate them into their own work, rather than sometimes snipe behind our backs, which, sadly, some other clubs have done in the past, although it would be unfair to name & shame them."

The Goodrich School initiative, today came about after Hamlet fan and local dad Darren McCreery asked for a few matchday tickets for the school Christmas Fair last month. As well as offering pairs of tickets & a family season ticket as prizes for two of their recent events, our Club also offer to invite the entire school & their friends to a match, to encourage new fans.

Darren said:
"it’s great that the club is trying to get kids hooked on the Hamlet early. We all remember our first game, and I’m delighted that a few more will be created at Champion Hill on Saturday thanks to this".

We hope to see many from the school visiting us again at future fixtures, helped by the club’s family friendly ticket prices where for league games under 12’s go free, adults are £10, and concessions (including under 18’s) pay just £4. Not forgetting that for young Hamlet fans aged 13 to 18 a season ticket is a simple 'pay your age' price.
