On Tuesday, in the midweek edition, the match with Crystal Palace was highlighted:
Hamlet prepare for Palace
Dulwich Hamlet are expecting a strong Crystal Palace lineup for tonight's pre-season friendly at Champion Hill. The transfer of Michael Chambers in January 2012 included an agreement that Palace would field a first-team squad for the friendly.
On Saturday, Dulwich defeated fellow Ryman Isthmian Football League Premier Division side Bromley 2-1 in a pre-season friendly at Bromley. The home side went ahead after 13 minutes when Pierre-Joseph Dubois was first to the ball after Phil Wilson saved a low shot. Hamlet drew level before the break when Erhun Oztumer curled a corner straight into the goal. Brothers Kevin and Junior James combined for the winner. Junior was on the end of a Kevin free-kick from the left, and he headed home from six yards.
In the Weekend copy of the 'South London Press' today there were two pieces on The Hamlet.
One was about the Crystal Palace match:
Top marks to Palace say grateful Dulwich
Dulwich Hamlet have expressed their thanks to Ian Holloway and his Palace players for their exemplary backing on Tuesday evening.
The full Eagles squad either played or sat in the stands for the game, whcih drew a crowd of 1,692 fans. Many were able to talk to, and get autographs from, the stars who did not play, such as Julian Speroni and Mile Jedinak.
"Ian brought all of his first team, which was fantastic of him-top marks to them," said Dulwich chief executive Martin Eede. "They did their bit for non-league football, which was great. We had a good crowd of 1,692 but I bet there were more than 2,000 by the time we opened the gates at the end to let more people in to meet the players. It was a great night for us-financially, as well as for our players and fans. That will set us up for the start of the season. And we hope one or two of the Palace fans who came along liked what they saw and might revisit us, perhaps when Palace are playing away this season. It should be a bit easier to get tickets for us now that they are in the Premier League, too. We have also had fantastic support from Huddersfield Town as part of the deal which took Daniel Carr up there. And from the team Neil Harris brought from Millwall-my goodness he had them up for it, after they had been beaten in their previous game. The striker Aidan O’Brien looked quick and strong. We also had excellent support from Dagenham & Redbridge and their manager Wayne Burnett, who used to be in charge here.”
The game was part of the deal with took defender Michael Chamberlain from Dulwich to Selhurst Park 18 months ago.
In their regular non-league column, the first Premier Division match, at home to Lowestoft Town tomorrow, features:
Dulwich start against favourites
Dulwich Hamlet kick off their first Ryman League Premier Division match for ten years tomorrow at 3pm against the favourites for promotion, Lowestoft Town. The visitors have lost out in the play-offs for the last three years. The game has been chosen as one of 150 in non-league to promote the Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day, sponsored by the FA, to boost grass roots football but also raise money for Sir Bobby’s cancer charity. There will be T-shirts and other merchandise on sale. Hamlet manager Gavin Rose-who has in the last two years seen eight of his players sign for league clubs-and the coaching staff of his Aspire Academy will lead sessions on the day.
“We have a manager who is shrewd in bringing players on but also in his dealings with other clubs,” said chief executive Martin Eede. “Gavin always ensures the deal is good for this club. That has helped us get into the position we are in now. What a great game to start our campaign off-against the bookies’ favourites!”
