Hampton & Richmond Borough 1-0 Dulwich Hamlet

A solitary goal from Charlie Moone condemned The Hamlet to a defeat in a game in which they had the majority of possession and chances.

The game took place on a pitch that was clearly not suited to Dulwich's passing game. Both bumpy and with large areas of mud, it took the players some time to come to terms with a very difficult surface.

With players struggling to keep their feet, there was little action of any note in the early stages. Luke Wanadio was getting some joy on the right, although when he did get away from his marker, Tom Kelley, he was crudely scythed down. Somehow the full back escaped a booking.

Dulwich had the first real chance in the 22nd minute. Luke Wanadio had his low shot saved by Mark Smith in the home goal but the ball slipped from his grasp. However, the keeper managed to thwart Harry Ottaway's attempt to chip his follow up effort over him.

Smith was again in actioncameinutes later as Jack Dixon drove forward from midfield and, after his shot was blocked, the ball broke tp Nyren Clunis whose shot was comfortably saved.

Dulwich were now looking dangerous and a 27th header from Harry Ottaway was just too high following more good work from Wanadio.

Jelley was to be booked for another crude challenge on Wanadio before The Hamlet came close again in the 35th minute. Harry Ottaway hooked the ball on and sent Nyren Clunis clear to the right of goal. However, his effort came back off the post and out of reach of players following in.

Following their let off Hampton finally mustered a threatening attack as Phil Wilson had to be out quickly to thwart Moone. However, Dulwich were to be undone just 2 minutes later as Hampton pounced for what turned out to be the winner.

A long ball forward was knocked down and Moone was allowed to turn inside the box and beat the dive of Phil Wilson to give the home side a 40th minute lead.

Dulwich put the setback behind them and went back on the attack. Wanadio again beat Jelley on thwe right and was tugged back in the box. However, the ptotests fell on deaf ears. Dulwich almost levelled right on half time as another cross from Wanadio was headed just over by Ottaway.

Half Time 1-0

The second half, just like the first, was slow to get going as players seemed once again to take time to get used to the pitch conditions, with one large patch now seeing any ball into it sticking in the increasingly muddy surface and being impossible to run the ball through.

It was Dulwich who had the first chance of the half in the 61st minute. Frazer Shaw & Nyren Clunis combined on the left. The cross saw Harry Ottaway get his head to it and, as the ball looped up, Luke Wanadio saw his effort blocked by Smith at point blank range.

Two minutes later, Kershaney Samuels & Luke Wanadio combined to get the ball to Ottaway, his volley on the turn being pushed out by Smith at full stretch.

Hampton had their first serious effort of the half in the 66th minute as Moone saw his effort from the edge of the box deflected wide by Ethan Pinnock.

Dulwich then had two chances in the 76th minute. First, Kieron Murphy just managed to clear a flick on in front of Nyren Clunis then, from the resulting corner, Ethan Pinnock flicked thwball goalwards but again Smith blocked and nobody was able to fire home the loose ball.

An Ashley Carew free kick was deflected wide off the wall and Ethan Pinnock headed over from an Albert Jarrett corner but the equaliser just wouldn't come despite Dulwich dominating the game.
