We need YOUR help to help others
This Saturday, at home to Grays Athletic, we are appealing to as many Hamlet fans a possible to help our local FOODBANK
The Southwark Foodbank does vital work all over our borough, and we have invited them down to our next home game, this coming Saturday 31st January versus Grays Athletic with a 3.00pm kick off, to be our guests.
Just inside the turnstiles they will be staffing a collection point, where Dulwich Hamlet fans can donate items to the Foodbank, and they shall also have a collection bucket if you prefer to make a monetary donation.
In particular demand, at this very moment, are:
* Corned Beef
*Juice
*Toiletries
-Shower gel
-Shampoo
-Toilet tissue
*Rice pudding
*Tooth brushes
*Toothpaste
But all non-perishable goods & foodstuffs are welcomed.
The Soutwark Foodbank was established by Pecan in 2009, and the number of people they have helped to feed each year has increased each and every time the calendar turns. From helping feed 509 in 2009/10 the workload stook at helping a massive 4,506 people, in 2013/14.
There are many reasons why people are forced to use foodbanks, but one of the most common reasons last year for users visiting them last year was benefit delays. And a smaller but still sizable proportion, at 8%, of users came as a result of domestic violence.
Here is but one tale of one of their users:
Lisa was referred to the Foodbank via a mums group. A single mum of three children, she was also selected to receive a Christmas hamper where she received ingredients to prepare a traditional Christmas lunch, including a fresh turkey with Brussel sprouts and potatoes. Lisa was overjoyed when she received the hamper and could not believe that it included fresh meat. She told the volunteer that Southwark Foodbank should keep up with the work they are doing because it will surely make a difference to the lives of the people who use the service, as it has put a smile on the face of her and her children.
If you are able to help people like Lisa & her family simply bring your donations, whether goods, or financial, along to the game on Saturday, to pass on to our Foodbank guests.
We are also happy to have offered FREE ADMISSION on Saturday, to Southwark Footbank clients, their voluntary workers & their families.
We hope they enjoy the game, and look forward to welcoming them back to Champion Hill, to support The Hamlet, when they are back on their feet, on a sounder financial footing.
