Here's the local press round-up from the last week
Once again we let you know what's being said in our local newspapers
On Tuesday, in the midweek edition of the 'South London Press' the lead piece in their Non-League section was about our superb win over Lewes:
Goals galore at Champion Hill as Dulwich keep pace
It rained goals at Champion Hill on Saturday despite a contest between two of the Ryman League Premier Division's tightest defences.
Dulwich Hamlet made a mockery of Lewes' record of just eight goals conceded prior to the match by comfortably running out 4-2 winners. It was 1-1 at the break after the visitors had bounced back from gifting the hosts an own goal. but two quick strikes from Jerome Walker and Kevin James early in the second period put Dulwich in a commanding position. A wonder-strike from Lewes captain Jack Dixon put Lewes back in contention but Marc-Anthony Okoye made the points safe with a volley at the far post. Both sides created further chances, including a flying save from Phil Wilson to keep out Fraser Logan's header, but the goal tally stayed at six. Erhun Oztumer and Kershaney Samuels also forced good stops from Lewes goalkeeper Kingsley Banks. The result keeps Gavin Rose's side in second place, just a point behind leaders AFC Hornchurch. Dulwich travel to Hemel Hempstead Town in the FA Cup third qualifying round on Saturday.
On Thursday, in the weekly edition of the 'Southwark News', they chose, surprisingly, to ignore our big FA Cup match at Hemel Hempstead, choosing to concentrating on the Lewes victory:
Hamlet stretch winning run to eight games
Hamlet inflicted the first league defeat on their visitors as they maintained a run of wins that now stretches to eight consecutive games.
Dulwich made a couple of changes from the victory at Bury as they were denied the services of Mathieu Boyer and Lewis Gosalves through injury.
The first chance of the day came via route one as keeper Phil Wilson's clearance was flicked on by Ian Daly, leaving Jerome Walker free only to be foiled by Lewes keeper Rikki Banks.
Dulwich took the lead as Walker again got away down the right wing and his cross down the six yard box was turned into his own goal by Steve Brinkhurst.
Hamlet continued to press dorward, looking for a second goal, with Erhun Oztumer and Ahmed Deen both having shots charged down.
Ellis Green had to leave the field with a hamstring injury soon after and he was replaced by Nyren Clunis who had barely stepped on the field when Lewes equalised through Jay Lovett.
Lewes then had much the better of the remaining ten minutes of the first half as Dulwich looked for the sanctuary of half time and the dressing room.
The second half opened with Dulwich in the ascendancy and a flowing move saw Nyren Clunis arrive on the end of a pass and finish with style, only for his goal to be ruled out by the assistant referee.
Hamlet weren't to be denied for long and Clunis set up the next goal as his cross was met by Jerome Walker with a well directed header back to put the home side ahead.
Dulwich quickly added a third as fine interplay between Daly, Oztumer and Kevin James saw the latter double their lead.
Lewes remained a danger at all times and they reduced the arrears as Jack Dixon hit a terrific volley that gave the diving Phil Wilson no chance.
In the end to end game it was Dulwich who restored their two goal lead as a corner from James was flicked on Peter Adeniyi and volleyed home at the far post by Marc-Anthony Okoye.
Finally, the weekend copy of the 'South London Press', which hit the newsagents shelves earlier today:
TIMING IS VIDAL
Dulwwich Hamlet midfielder Xavier Vidal may spend next week o trial with a Premier League or Championship club.
Boss Gavin Rose confirmed there had been interest from several clubs, but Dulwich have had talks with two teams in particular. He did not want to name the sides but confirmed that one was a Premiership team and one was from the Championship-with reports yesterday suggesting that they could be Crystal Palace and Bolton, managed by former Eagles manager Dougie Freedman. It is only because the Hamlet have four days without a game after Monday, when they host Hendon in the League Cup, that they are willing to let Vidal go.
"He had had a lot of attention but the timing hasn't quite been right for us in terms of our fixture list," Rose said. We have to be able to afford to let him go because we need him to be available to play for us. We've had a lot of midweek games so we have needed him."
Dulwich Hamlet travel to Hemel Hempstead Town in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup tomorrow. Their hosts are currently top of the Southern League Premier Division, having won 10 out of 11 games, so Rose expects the tie to be one of Dulwich's most difficult games of the season.
"We've had them watched and they were very impressive for our level of football," he said. "Their manager has helped a few young players into the professional game. We'll be fielding our strongest possible side with every intention to win. We want to see how far we can go in this competition."
Mathieu Boyer (ankle), Marcel Henry-Francis thigh) and Lewis Gonsalves (head) have all returned to training and are in contention for tomorrow's squad. Nyren Clunis continues to step up his fitness, having come on as substitute in Saturday's 4-2 win at home to Lewes in the Ryman League Premier Division, but the player he replaced-Ellis Green-was forced off with a hamstring injury and will miss the trip. Dean Lodge is still unavailable due to a bruised foot. Saturday's win, in which Jerome Walker, Kevin James and Mark-Anthony Okoye added to a first-half own goal, kept Dulwich just a point behind league-leaders Kingstonian. They dropped down to third after AFC Hornchurch won their game in hand on Tuesday.
Despite their excellent league position, Rose refuses to alter his target of avoiding relegation until it is mathematically certain. "Only 100 per cent that we are safe will we start looking higher," he said. "We have only just come up so we should not look beyond that. We've had a great start but it's only been ten weeks or so and a season is not decided in that length of time."
