Here's what we said...
There was no 'Commercial & Community' column in last night's programme, so nothing to share...but here's the one from Saturday
Many thanks to Football Committee member Mishi Morath, who has been penning these pieces for the last couple of seasons or so.
Liam Hickey is now writing them ,spreading the same message, and we shall continue to re-publish them on here, the official Dulwich Hamlet website, for those of you who were unable to get to a game, or do not yet purchase our matchday magazine, which is on sale at every home match, priced at only two pounds.
This was Liam's first column of the season from last Saturday, when we played Margate in the FA Trophy:
Good afternoon,
In town for today are Margate, the team that pipped us for promotion in the play-offs last season, The game will be a good test of our National League South aspirations as we continue to be one of the challengers for promotion at the top of the table.
Before I continue with this column I thought it best to ‘introduce myself’. For the last few seasons this page has been written by a fellow committee member, Mishi Morath but he is taking a step back to ensure that his comments from a club committee perspective do not clash with his role as a Supporters Trust Board member. My taking over means that this column can fully represent the views of the Dulwich Hamlet Football Club Committee.
Firstly, I would like to welcome our sponsors for this afternoon's game. The match has kindly been sponsored by HR Jennings For Insurance and I would like to thank Norman Pocock and his team for all their support. As far as our ball sponsor is concerned then it's really the wrong time of year for them but a big thank you to Dulwich Cricket Club.
Moving on, as a supporter for many decades standing, it will be a somewhat sad time just before kick off, but also a joyous moment, as we hold a pre-match one minute silence to recall the loyal support of one of our long-standing fans IVOR BATEMAN, who passed away last month at the grand age of 93-years-old. We are pleased to have as guests of the Club today not just his son Malcolm, who is a a dedicated home and away follower of the team, but a small party of family members who are here to pay their respects to Ivor, and show appreciation to the club who gave him so much pleasure, and no doubt a lot of pain too, down the years. All at Dulwich Hamlet Football Club, from the boardroom & changing rooms as well as all over the ground, offer our deepest sympathies to all of the Bateman family, not just those who could make the trip this afternoon.
Now for some notes to put into your diary. Subject to there being a winner here at Champion Hill today, we are scheduled to be at home on Tuesday night to Faversham Town in the Alan Turvey Trophy. The Football Committee are more than aware some of the long trips our fans have had to make, most notably the huge turn-out at last weekend's match down on the South Coast at Bognor Regis Town, and we also realise that Christmas is creeping up on the horizon. Therefore, we are pleased to inform you that, if there is no replay down at Margate, then we are offering HALF-PRICE admission to this match as a gesture of thanks for your loyal support. The price at the gate will only be £5 for adults, and £2 for our large range of concessions, with all Under 12s FREE as usual.
We are back at Champion Hill the following Saturday and this promises to be a really exciting day, even before there is any action on the pitch. This match is being designated as a ‘Dulwich Hamlet Problem Gambling Awareness Day’, which is the brainchild of the newest member of the Football Committee, George Parnavelas. George is involved in a registered charity called ‘The Young Gamblers Education Trust’, and we are happy to be working alongside them for this home match with Needham Market.
On the same day, we are honoured to have a large party of former Dulwich Hamlet players from the 60s and 70s. This has been organised by Kimm Connett who wore our colours from 1977 and whose late father Pat was one of the true Hamlet greats back in the 50s
We wrap up your diary entries for now, with a quick plug for the Dulwich Hamlet Supporters'Trust Christmas Party. This takes place on Thursday 10th December in the Club Bar. The fun commences at 7.00pm and tickets will be available on the door priced at £2 for Trust Members & £5 for non members.
Finally, we hope to have some exciting news on a new sponsor in the next few days. This new sponsor will have their branding in the stadium and will be helping the club and Aspire Academy to develop the next generation of Hamlet players. Keep an eye on the official website, www.dulwichhamletfc.london, over the next few days for updates on everything we have mentioned.
Finally, do you know a business that would like to experience a match at Champion Hill or that you think would be interested in sponsoring, or advertising with, the club? Additionally, do you know, or are involved with, a community group whose members could just do with a fun, and free, day out at The Hamlet? If you do then just email me at
Enjoy the game.
