Junior Club round-up

Junior Club round-up

Time for a round-up of results from our SELKENT League sides, under the banner of the Dulwich Hamlet Junior Football Club.

It's been a while since we had the chance to focus on the younger boys who don the famous Pink 'n' Blue every Sunday morning. Apologies for that, but rest assured we're not ignoring them! We update this site voluntarily, in our spare time, & sometimes can't dov postings as often as we could like, I hope you all understand, & thank you all for your patience!

Unfortunately, going back to the 30th of September, I didn't get the results through, maybe lost somewhere in 'cyberspace', but I was informed that our Under Sevens did not play, as we didn't have a full team.

The Under Eights were very busy, playing a friendly 'round robin' on the Friday evening, against a Charlton Athletic Academy outfit, with a League match against Allstars two days later.

Here is a report for the Friday match:

" Friday night saw the might of Dulwich Hamlet take on two teams from Paul Harts Charlton Athletic Academy and the Crayford. First up we saw Dulwich play Athletic A’s, both sides kicking off cautiously, Charlton where first to take a shot on goal testing Hamlet keeper only to see F.Luxton keep the game level with a emphatic save. 15minutes in, Charlton really put Dulwich under pressure, with a series of shots going wide or blocked by the Hamlet defenders.
Then like a flip of a coin, it was all Charlton with ten minutes before the end of the second half it was 5-0 to Paul Hart's side. As we entered the closing stages Hamlet found their rhythm with the likes of R.O’Sullivan, K.Ono and L.Colledge putting their bodies on the line, preventing attack after attack by Charlton. No matter the result it was good to see Dulwich Hamlet Under Eights summer signing make his non-competitive debut, which saw J.Dyer take to the field. Full time Charlton win 7-0. "

" Game two saw the Charlton Athletic B team go two nil up against Dulwich. Then Hamlet really turned on the style pushing Charlton against the wall, with T.Thompson unable to covert from the edge of the box and E.Hopewood prevented from walking the ball in to the back of the net. Now the Charlton keeper was really put on the back foot, but unbelievably he was saving everything thrown his way. Until from just outside the box K.Ono steps up and smashes the ball home 2-1.
Minutes later with J.Dyer and K.Anderson bossing the midfield they play a sublime pass to an on running C.Harris who tucks the ball away 2-2. Dulwich were on for the comeback, until a 'non call' from the ref on a Hamlet player who was dangerously taken out saw Charlton to take charge with a long shot that creeps just under the bar for a 3-2 advantage. Athletic took advantage there on out, finishing the game off 6-2 in their favour.
Dulwich Hamlet kicked off the third game and last game of the night, with C.Harris galloping forward taking on two Crayford players only for the Keeper to save his shot. Hamlet took control leading to R.O’Sullivan driving his pass across goal for K.Ono to covert putting Hamlet 1-0 up. A quick counter see’s Crayford smash a shot against the cross bar. Dulwich have a fight on their hands. J.Dyer wins the ball controls play then knocks it to L.Colledge who lays it through to C.Harris for a tap in 2-0 full time.
Post game T. Anderson, striker for HF Sports, said “The boys showed heart today a true test of character”. T.Luxton added that today’s series of games was a “War of Attrition”. "

And so onto the league games on the Sunday:

" Dulwich Hamlet kick-off against one of only a few sides to beat them last season, it’s a slow controlled start both sides easing themselves in to todays game. Until a quick ball over the top, lays the ball at E. Hopewood who battles down the wing only for the ball to be knocked out of play.
Hamlet are now put under pressure by the Allstars, only for E.Hopewood to win the ball and pester the right back down his left wing. Controlled passing by Dulwich leads K.Anderson to nut meg the opposition as he releases E.Hopewood down the wing yet again. He’s a real threat today will AFC be able to stop him. C.Harris receives the ball from his defense plays it forward to an on running F.Luxton who laces it, a screamer smashes the back of the net, that’s the first of the game Hamlet lead 1-0, surely more’s to come. AFC attempt a counter only for K. Ono to block their route, he plays in K.Anderson for a neat finish at the edge of the box 2-0.
The Allstars really have to think of something now; they chip the ball into the box, the no. 9 shoots but strong hands by T.Thompson as he saves from close range, awesome save. It leads to a quick counter by F.Luxton on the break he plays E.Hopewood through; the AFC defence knocks the ball out of play. F.Luxton on the attack again he screws a shot low through the keepers legs, it doesn’t go over the line, 2-0 half time.
Straight after the break Dulwich are hot off the blocks a certain goal, but the ref doesn't give it;Hamlet are a foot in this game, AFC win a free kick but it crashes into the side netting. Defensive footwork from R.O’Sullivan prevents a certain chance on goal by AFC. The Ball springs from midfield K.Anderson latches on to it, wriggles his way into the Allstars area and calmly slots it home 3-0. AFC are taking their chances now, a snap shot is blocked by L.Colledge his big header prevents a certain AFC goal. F.Luxton skips past the last defender but cant get enough power on the shot K.Anderson follows up but screws it just wide, It's all Dulwich Hamlet.
The Hamlet attacking threat pays off with C.Harris nestling home two late goals making it 5-0 as the game begins to draw to a close. Further shots from J.Dyer and L.Colledge leave the fans wanting more, with the latter’s shot smacking against the upright. Full time makes it a 5-0 Dulwich win. After the gaffer Lou Anderson added, “My boys are fantastic”, that’s three out of three in the league here’s till next Sunday. "

The following week, Sunday 7th October, saw a full set of Dulwich Hamlet Junior games being played. The Under Sevens went down 3-0 versus Club Langley Wings; also going down in their second match, but closer this time only being defeated by the odd goal in five, against Club Langley.

Our Under Eights had a great result, winning 4-2 at Southwark & Lambeth, for which I am pleased to say, have received a report:

" A glorious sunny Sunday afternoon saw Dulwich Hamlet Under Eights take on Lambeth & Southwark at Peckham Town Football Club's home ground. As they prepared for their 4th league game of the season to get underway, our boys in pink & navy blue were beaming with confidence. They were all smiles as they waited for the black & blue of L&S to Kick Off.
The game kick-off’s with Club Captain K.Anderson winning the ball in the middle of the park, he plays it out to his right wing, where C.Harris receives the pass, he bursts into the box, passes a defender and takes the shot but it creeps just wide. Is this a sign of things to come? With plenty of back and forth in midfield, the ball settles at the feet of K.Ono who lays it off to F.Luxton, he smashes the ball it nut megs the last defender, the goal keeper doesn’t see it coming, back of the net, Dulwich take the lead 1-0.
K.Ono & C.Harris have taken this game by the scruff of the neck, utilising their wings to put Lambeth under pressure. But not without reply as Southwark attempt a counter-attack only for 'old school' defending from L.Colledge to smash the ball clear. Hamlet put L&C on the back foot, penning them in close to goal. F.Luxton battles down the wing and finds space to knock a ball across the face of the goal. Plenty of Hamlet players are waiting to get on the end of it and up pops C.Harris who converts for the boys second. The Hamlet are 2-0 for the good as we close in on half time.
The second half gets under way & the Hamlet are hot off the blocks, they have plenty of chances but are unable to get a goal, too much trying to walk it into the back of the net. Then from a quick break in midfield, Southwark take control a shot from the edge of the box by the L&S no9 chips the keeper. 2-1. Hamlet battle on where tandem corner by H.Mahoney & K.Anderson sees the ball chipped into the area, F.Luxton rises to make it 3-1, for an impeccable finish.
We have a dogged match now, with R.O’Sullivan taken out, he gets up and brushes himself off, parents & fans on the touchline alike wondering will the challenge rattle his cage? With the game nearing its finish, Dulwich are caught napping, the L&S no.9 flies up-filed with K.Anderson snapping at his heels ref blows, players stop, but he plays advantage, the Lambeth 9 taps it home 3-2.
We’re now in the last minute and straight from the back R.O’Sulliavan launches the ball long, route one football. E.Hopewood gets on the end of it; he’s one on one with the keeper as nears the keepers box, calm as you like he makes it 4-2 for Dulwich Hamlet, full time.
Massive win for the boys K. Anderson today’s Man of the Match said after the game “Basically that was a great win, I'm happy”. That’s four in four for Dulwich. Here’s until the next game! "

The Under Tens won on their travels, in the D West Division, coming back from Lee Green United with all the points, after a two nil win.

Back at the home ground, the Goals ground in Copers Cope Road, there were no more victories. In C West our Under Elevens lost 2-1 against Petts Wood Herons; while there were draws for the Under Twelves in C West, we drew with Culverley. Our Under Thirteens also shared the spolis with their C Division counterparts, Hillyfielders, three apiece there.

Which was the same score for the Under Fifteens, who made the jounrey to Kingfisher, which you can read asbout in this report:

"Dulwich Hamlet Under 15's earned a good point away at Kingfisher on Sunday. Dulwich went ahead in the first half against the run of play with Hafeez Bolarinwa capitalising on some sloppy defensive play and slotting home with a composed finish inside the 6 yard box. Kingfisher hit back with goals either side of the break and thought they had the game won, only for Dulwich to equalise late on through midfielder Billy Newton. Inside the last few minutes it looked all over for Dulwich after conceding a soft penalty and going behind again, however this Dulwich team never gives up and earned a deserved point through persistence, and a cool finish from Shaquille Smith in the final minute of the game. Special mention must go to Nimaale Hussain who was immense and worked tirelessly for the team throughout the game."

Now onto last weekend, the 14th October, when six of our seven sides were in action.

Not the best of 'days at the office' for our Under Sevens, losing twice to Phoenix Lions. Seven for no reply, and then 4-1.

The Under Eights had a high scoring game, at home, in the West Division, thankfully in our favour. Although Club Langley scored three, we hit seven!

No game for the Under Tens, as scheduled opponents Royal Greenwich Palace were unable to raise a side.

Victory, at home,in the C Division, for our Under Elevens, who beat visitors Halls AFC by three goals to one.

In the next age group our Under Twelves lost, despite hitting the back of the net no less than five times in C West, at Meridian! Unfortunately for us our hosts were even more prolific, scoring two more than us, for a 7-5 scoreline!

The Under Thirteens also had to travel, for a London Cup tie. No join for them, losing 5-0.

In the SELKENT B Division our eldest Junior age group, the Under Fifteens, had one side score five, fortunately it was us! Visitors Petts Wood Condors returning home losing 5-3 to The Hamlet.

A BIG THANK YOU to the coaches & managers who have found the time to send in match reports, it is much apprciated, & I am getting lots of positive feedback from supporters of the Senior Club, who appreciate the chance to keep an eye on how our Juniors are doing.
