Leiston 0-2 Dulwich Hamlet
A solid performance from The Hamlet secured the 3 points against a Leiston side that had started the day with maximum points.
Dulwich got off to the best possible start, taking the lead in the 2nd minute. Terrell Forbes found Laurent Hamici some 25 yards out and he let fly with an effort that produced a great save from home keeper Danny Gay who parried the ball to his right. However, Dean McDonald picked up the loose ball, stepped inside the covering defender and dispatched his shot past Gay and into the top corner for his first goal for The Hamlet.
Leiston then established a dominance that came close to producing an equaliser. Phil Wilson saved from Craig Parker after a goalmouth scramble and then a great run from Heath on the Leiston left saw him pull the ball back across the six yard box. Winter looked certain to score but Ethan Pinnock produced a great block, throwing himself into the path of the shot.
The game then became more of a midfield battle with both defences on top before Leiston almost gifted Dulwich a second goal as a defender passed back without looking and Gay had to grab the ball close to the line. Somehow this was not deemed to be a deliberate backpass.
Ethan Pinnock was narrowly too high with a 35th minute shot and Phil Wilson then produced a great low save two minutes from half time.
With stoppage time being played at the end of the half, Nyren Clunis was played through but Gay denied him with a fine save.
Half Time 0-1
Nyren Clunis went close again 3 minutes after the break as Dean McDonald clipped a ball over the top. Clunis got to the ball before the advancing Gay but, with the goal now gaping, Adam Gann got back to clear.
Phil Wilson then made a fine stop from a far post header before Nyren Clunis & Ashley Carew both brought fine stops from Gay.
The second goal arrived in the 66th minute as clever play from Dean McDonald saw him draw a rash challenge from Tom Bullard and the referee pointed to the spot. Ashley Carew stepped up and dispatched the penalty.
Abdul Mansaray then set up Xavier Vidal but his shot was saved by Gay low to his left. Leiston then went close with 13 minutes left as a long throw found its way to the back post but Wilson blocked.
That was as close as the home side would get, whilst The Hamlet came close again as Mansaray was denied a penalty when he was clipped as he tried to round Gay & the same player also brought a good save out of the keeper after a good pass from Ashley Carew.
