Leiston 2-2 Dulwich Hamlet

Leiston 2-2 Dulwich Hamlet

A goal in the second minute of stoppage time from Joe Jefford denied Dulwich the three points in a game the visitors should have won comfortably.

Dulwich were without the injured trio of Nathan Green, Anthony Achempong and Gavin Tomlin, whilst Kenny Beaney reverted to the bench. Frazer Shaw made his first appearance of his second spell with the club and Nathan Ferguson made his first starting appearance.

This was an impressive performance from The Hamlet but their lack of composure in front of goal denied them the win their performance warranted.

Dulwich were quickly into their stride and Dumebi Dumaka fired just wide in only the 2nd minute but within a minute Preston Edwards had to save from Byron Lawrence. Nyren Clunis created a chance in the fifth minute after intercepting a cross field pass but his effort was blocked for a corner. Dumebi Dumaka headed over from the resulting corner kick.

Dumebi Dumaka was denied after a fine pass from Nathan Ferguson, who had an impressive game. Rickie Hayles headed wide from a corner and Ferguson had an effort from distance that went just wide.

With the Dulwich forwards linking well, it was fully justified when they took a 17th minute lead. A cross from Sanchez Ming was pulled down by Nyren Clunis and he despatched his effort past Garnham in the home goal.

Dulwich should have doubled their lead in the 26th minute when a free kick into the box fell to Michael Chambers but he put it wide of an empty goal. Clunis had another effort blocked, and Hayles had another header that went wide before Dulwich doubled their lead in the 37th minute.

A fine passing move spread the ball across the pitch and when Frazer Shaw's cross was cleared only to the edge of the penalty area where Sanchez Ming fired the ball low past Garnham.

However, Dulwich only held their two goal lead for 3 minutes. A fine low shot beat Preston Edwards but came back off the post but Christy Finch was on hand fire home the ball. In fact, it took a fine save from Preston Edwards to preserve a half time lead for Dulwich when he made a fine save from a Byron Lawrence free kick.

Half Time 1-2

Dumebi Dumaka had a chance to restore the two goal lead in the 47th minute when he was found by a long ball over the defence by Frazer Shaw. However, he was thwarted one on one by Garnham. Dumaka, Ferguson and Clunis all had efforts that failed to work the keeper and the more direct football of Leiston meant Dulwich had to increasingly defend, especially with the Leiston right back, Kyle Hammond, venturing forward more often and delivering a number of dangerous crosses. However, the centre back triumvirate of Hayles, Weatherstone and Chambers repelled their efforts.

In the final twenty minutes Dulwich reasserted some control of the game. Ashley Carew had two efforts that were just over the bar and Ferguson had an audacious chip that was just too high. However, in a rare effort on the Dulwich goal, Preston Edwards made a fine save from Finch.

Nyren Clunis had a great chance to seal the win after a fine passing move but having turned inside and opened up the target, he then fired too high. Frazer Shaw was brought down in the penalty area and Muhammadu Faal was pulled back but both offences went unpunished.

With the game into its second minute of stoppage time, two blocks from the Dulwich defence seemed to have thwarted the home side's best efforts but, from the resulting corner, the ball was not cut out at the near post and Jefford arrived to head in.

Final Score 2-2
