Ming Retained For Another Year
Long-serving defender commits to 23-24 at Champion Hill
Defender Sanchez Ming has re-signed for the Hamlet ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Sanchez is currently in his fourth spell with the club, and is about to embark on a ninth season in pink and blue.
The 33-year-old reached the 250 game milestone last season, scoring four times in 35 appearances in all competitions. He has now made a total of 269 games for the Hamlet, with 23 goals in total. He was also the only person to play every minute under Hakan Hayrettin following his arrival.
Sanchez first played for the Hamlet as a 19-year-old, making his debut as a winger in a 1-1 draw at home to Leatherhead in Division One South of the Isthmian League in August 2009. He then scored his first goal three days later at Whitstable Town in a 3-1 win. After leaving at the end of the season, he would return again in 2011-12, as the Hamlet reached the playoffs.
His third spell was between 2016 and 2019, where he played an integral part in our run to the FA Trophy Quarter-Finals and then promotion to the National League South, before an 18-month spell away from the club took him to Welling United and Dartford.
After returning to the club in 2020, Sanchez has overcome a serious Achilles rupture to continue to be a pivotal part of the club's furniture.
“I think Sanchez has been our most consistent player since I have been here, he showed the fight and desire required to try and save the club’s status in the league,” said Hakan.
“He’s been here a very long time, and he didn’t want to go elsewhere, which was important to me, as he wanted to show faith and commitment to the fans who have supported him for so long.”
“Hopefully we will see him continue to produce the quality that he was at the back end of last season, and I fully believe he will.”
