More coverage for our CHARITY GAME

Wednesday's Syrian Refugee Awareness fundraising match made the 'Non League Paper' yesterday

The game was called off last week, advance tickets sold are still valid for our second attempt in two days time.

Yesterday’s edition of the ‘Non League Paper’ carried an article on our match against FC Assyria, which was postponed last week, but we shall still be staging in two days time, this coming Wednesday 9th March, with a 7.45pm kick off.
The article was illustrated with a picture of our fans, under the Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward Stand, which was captioned:

UNITED WE STAND: Dulwich Hamlet fans welcome FC Assyria to Champion Hill in a rearranged friendly for Syria refugees this Wednesday.

Here is what the piece had to say:

CHAMPION-ING AT THE HEART OF THE COMMUNITY
Dulwich Hamlet were down but not disheartened when their Syrian Refugee Awareness friendly match with Middlesex County League FC Assyria was washed out on Wednesday night.
Ryman Premier Dulwich are committed to their community and announced a fund-raiser against a side mainly comprising of players of Iraqi descent as manager Gavin Rose and his squad were due to take time out from their push for promotion.
Their aim was to make a large donation to the Southwark Refugee Forum and the British Red Cross Syria appeal with the crisis still making the news.
FC Assyria, set up in the 1960s to represent the Assyrian Society of the United Kingdom in Ealing, have maintained their heritage and culture and this Wednesday they will be back after rain put paid to last week’s encounter.
Hamlet pride themselves on being politically aware and last season put on a very well-received match with Stonewall to raise money and awareness to highlight homophobia within the sport.
Mishi Morath, Dulwich’s committee member for community initiatives, said: “We are very lucky at Champion Hill to have a caring fanbase who get right behind initiatives such as this. It’s such a simple idea, to play a friendly against a lower-level side, and donate all of the money to something worthwhile. It ticks all the boxes, helping both refugees who have settled locally, and continues the humanitarian efforts that our fans clearly care about. Some in Non-League think our fans might bring too much politics into football, but it’s not about doing that. It’s about doing the right thing, and the local community in East Dulwich, Southwark and beyond clearly agree, if you judge our work with the crowds that are currently coming through the gate.”
Earlier this season the Dulwich fans donated several can loads of food and clothing, which they took over the Channel, and some supporters have formed the ‘Dulwich2Dunkirk’ collective to continue this work.
