Disappointing though it was to lose on Saturday, we must congratulate Gavin and the lads on that excellent unbeaten run.

In fact, it equalled our longest unbeaten run for over a century. We also went 19 games without defeat in 1978 when Alan Smith was our manager, winning 13 and drawing 6 during a sequence that overlapped seasons 1977/78 and 1978/79. The current team won 16 and drew three of their 19 games. Only once have we bettered that in senior football and that was way back in seasons 1900/01 and 1901/02 when we were unbeaten for 20 games (18 wins, 2 draws). As a junior club, we enjoyed another 20-game unbeaten run (all won) in season 1899/1900, and a little earlier, in 1897/98, we remained undefeated for 21 games (19 wins, 2 draws) - that is our all-time best.
