Penalty heartache for Reserves in semi final shoot out
Dulwich Hamlet's second string bowed out of the President's Cup, after holding a strong Hayes & Yeading side in normal time
The Hamlet missed on an appearance in the Capital League Cup, having come from behind twice, against a more experienced & physically stronger Hayes & Yeading team.
There was no score at the break, but not long into the second period the West London side took the lead with a freak long range effort. But a Richmond Ayoola lob, from a good 25 yards, evened thing up. Only two minutes later though, the Conference South reserves restored their lead. With less than ten minutes left on the clock Ayoola was flattened in the box, which resulted in substitute Junior Kadi scoring from the spot.
There was no further score, so the tie was settled by a penalty shoot out. Hayes went first, to go one up, & then calamity as Juniot Kadi put his effort wide of the post. But Anthony Page saved the next Hayes spot kick, with Andre Calado converting our next one, to even the scores. both Hayes & Taylor Thomas made their next ones count, & the visitors netted their fourth attempt. Unfortunately Tyer Myers had his one saved, but another stop from Page, in goal for us, kept us in it. Ahmed Deen then scored, to take it to sudden death.
Hayes made no mistake, to put pressure on us, but Calluam Martin hit the back of the net. Again our guests scored, and then up stepped Tom Skelton, who unfortunately has his shot saved, which put Hayes & Yeading United through to the final, defeating The Hamlet 5-4 in the penalty shoot out.
