Primo retires!

But, thankfully for us...not from Champion Hill.

John Leahy, known to all as Primo, who is currently the Vice-Chairman of the Dulwich Hamlet Football Committee, has for more years than we're sure he'd care to remember also served the London Football Association.

In actual fact he has been a London FA Council member for over 26 years...which pre-dates the building of the current Champion Hill Stadium, and many of our fans weren't even born then!

On Monday night, at their most recent meeting he decided to step down , having not just been a Council member, but he also resigned as a Director of that body, where he was also Chairman of one of the regional committees and of the Disciplinary committee.

He will still serve in the Boardroom at Champion Hill, literally, as one of his roles is to head up matchday hospitality, where he is the first friendly face that many of our guests see when visiting The Hamlet.

Primo has been involved with Dulwich Hamlet for much longer than he would probably care to remember, having first been one of our officials in the Nineteen Eighties.

Current Football Club Committee Chairman Liam Hickey said:
"The people who give up their time with the county FAs are often maligned as out-of-touch people in suits, but that is so far from the truth. Primo has given, I dread to think, how many hundreds if not thousands of hours of unpaid service just for the love of football."

He went on to say:
"I wish him well as he finally gets some more well deserved free time, but am also so pleased that he will continue to work voluntarily as my Vice-Chairman at the Hamlet. I personally owe him a great debt of gratitude for the way he has guided me both last season and into this one, as I have tried to find my feet in the unfamiliar role of Football Club Committee Chairman."
