REPORT | Folkestone Invicta 2 - 2 Dulwich Hamlet
Joseph Adewunmi rescued a point at the death for Dulwich Hamlet against 10-man Folkestone Invicta in an eventful 2-2 draw.
Hamlet were looking for a first win in six when they travelled to the Alcaline Stadium on Saturday. Their opponents sat in 3rd place going into the game.
Folkestone’s Joe Pigott showed his quality throughout the match, displaying why he was playing EFL football just a year ago. The English striker hit the bar 8 minutes in, having lobbed Toby Bull.
After multiple strikes over the bar, Dulwich opened the scoring through Nyren Clunis who curled the ball into the bottom corner past Invicta’s Ted Collins.
The travelling Pink and Blues had the chance to kill the game when Luke Wanadio was brought down in the box. But Sol Baugh sent the ball sailing over the bar, adding to the growing list of missed spot kicks for Dulwich this season.
Folkestone gave Hamlet another advantage a minute later when Liam Smith was sent off for a second yellow card in quick succession, leaving Invicta a player down with 25 minutes to go.
Wanadio was a constant threat all afternoon but vital chances weren’t taken and Dulwich were punished for it. Joe Pigott levelled the game when he slid in to tap his first home before looping the ball over Bull again, this time hitting the back of the net as Folkestone turned the tie around with minutes to go.
Facing a second loss in October, the 5 minutes added time gave the away side a lifeline to save themselves. And Joseph Adewunmi was the hero as he headed the ball powerfully past Collins from an excellent Nyren Clunis cross to make it 2-2.
5th place Hamlet travel to Chatham Town next in the first of six consecutive Tuesday night fixtures. A victory would be their first since the start of September.
