The BIG Palace game makes the headline
The 'Southwark News' led their non-league coverage with our final pre-season home match, which is next Tuesday.
Hamlet to take on Eagles
Dulwich Hamlet's finest are looking forward to a tough fight when they take on Crystal Palace's Premier League first team next week.
The pre-season friendly will test the mettle of the Champion Hill side and attract a bumper home crowd that will boost the club's coffers.
Club chief executive Martin Eede told the News the contest against the Eagles' best squad was guaranteed after the transfer of Michael Chambers.
In the contract there was a clause that required Palace to field a first team squad for the pre-season tussle, he said.
"It's a massive game for us as we're expecting a very, very, big crowd," he said.
"We've had a couple of good games against them in the last few years but they are full time professionals and we're non-league. It's great for the players," he said.
The Palace game will be the second major pre-season friendly for Hamlet in the space of seven days.
On Tuesday night a crowd of nearly 500 watched as they took on a young Millwall FC side at Champion Hill.
Though Hamelt lost 4-1, Mr Eede said the squad valued the experience.
"All these games are very, very, good to play against proprt league sides. They had a young side, very, very, fast and very fit," he said. "They had a young Irish under 21 international, Aiden O'Brien, he was quite influential in the game and he's obviously got a bright future in the game."
Kick-off against Crystal Palace on Tuesday August 6, at 7.45pm.
