THIS AFTERNOON’S MATCH PREVIEW – KINGSTONIAN (HOME)
And so the end is near, as we reach the final league game, victory needed to cement a place in the playoffs.
Yet after a lung-busting season, surely one of the longest in Hamlet’s history, the boys in Pink and Blue must push themselves through the pain barrier one more time against Kingstonians, one of the Premier Division’s most inform sides. For the traveling Surrey side, a playoff place may already be in the bag but, make no mistake, Allan Dowson will be as loath to let his K’s team cruise through the afternoon in anticipation of Wednesday night’s semi-finals. A final day win at Champion Hill for Kingston boys would secure a home advantage in midweek whilst going a long way to clinching second spot behind champions Wealdstone and possible home advantage in any prospective final.
K’s current rampant charge into the playoff places seems a far cry from late February when a run of five defeats in seven games saw their title aspirations railroaded. Defeat at Billericay saw the club as slump out of the playoffs spots for only the second time in the season. However, after fighting back from the setback of an early goal away to Margate, Kingstonian’s momentum has grown and grown culminating in a Easter weekend when they gate-crashed Wealdstone’s Championship party winning 4-0 in Ruislip, albeit after the 16th minute dismissal of the Stones’ custodian and the lack of a specialist goalkeeper on the home bench. On Easter Monday, a playoff place was assured as Ks sent Carshalton’s sorry Robins bob-bob-bobbing into Division One South taking their current unbeaten run to 13 games with a 5-1 crushing of the local rivals. With both leading scorer Ryan Moss (25 goals) and the experienced Andre McCollin (20) bagging braces that afternoon, the latter adding to the double that helped down the Stones two days earlier, K’s attack force has been a key driver in their late revival. Yet it is in defence that they have proved most parsimonious. Ks have the fourth best away record in the league this term and – with 20 clean sheets this term – have the best defensive record in the division alongside champions Wealdstone though that is sure to be tested against a Dulwich Hamlet side that has found the back of the net more than 120 times in all competitions this term. Add to all this a feisty game at Kingsmeadow when ten man Ks stunned Dulwich at the death with a breakaway goal to secure a vital 2-1 win against the odds.
This afternoon’s game kicks off at 3.00 pm at Champion Hill Stadium, Edgar Kail Way, East Dulwich, London SE22 8BD.
The turnstiles will be open from approximately 12.30 pm with refreshment facilities available in the ground for early arrivals. As a healthy crowd is expected, why not avoid the late rush and relax.
