THIS AFTERNOON’S MATCH PREVIEW – RAMSGATE (AWAY)
South London’s finest are looking to to do a spot of ram raiding at the weekend as they make the long trip down to the Southwood Stadium in Ramsgate.
Dulwich Hamlet must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky, etc. etc. Last weekend it was a Saturday to forget, particularly after the swift bounce back that left the sad Swans of Walton & Hersham feeling well and truly plucked following Tuesday’s night 3-0 Hamlet triumph at the Hill.
However, the Rams should prove a tougher prospect. Despite fluctuating form, they proved the mettle in midweek with a battling draw away to dark horse title challengers, Faversham Town. It was feisty derby night in the brewery town as the contest that has been reduced to ten-a-side before a goal had scored. Faversham’s Aidan Sherlock saw red before the break but the numbers were evened up as Ramsgate had striker Tom Chapman dismissed around the hour mark. Renford Tenyue then put the hosts ahead, but that lead lasted just five minutes as an oggie from Matt Bourne squared things.
That result allowed Dulwich to leapfrog the Lilywhites, back into second spot whilst ensuring the Rams own promotion dreams still burned bright with just a single victory separating them from Leatherhead currently sitting a little uneasy, like the witch in the ducking stool, in the last playoff berth.
Though the worst that winter could throw at us seems to have abated of late, this afternoon’s encounter will seem a far cry from the opening day of the season when Ramsgate journeyed up to town. In blisteringly warm conditions, Dulwich proved too hot to handle for the roasted Rams, a five minute three goal first half burst settling the contest as an Ellis Green brace sandwiched Lewis Gonsalves’ goal.
This afternoon’s game kicks off at 3.00 pm and takes place at Southwood Stadium, Prices Avenue, Ramsgate CT11 0AN, directions here.
