THIS EVENING’S MATCH PREVIEW – METROPOLITAN POLICE (HOME)
Can Dulwich Hamlet break through the Thin Blue Line to keep up the pressure at the top of the table tonight?
There is a busy night of Ryman Premier Action this evening none more so at Champion Hill were Dulwich seek to consolidate their lead at the head of the field against the Met Police.
This is the second meeting between the sides in a fortnight when the Police just prevailed in a a seven goal thriller as Dulwich’s quest for the London Senior Cup fell shy of the semi-finals thanks to a 4-3 win for the Boys in Blue with the aptly named Tyrone Pink bagging an appropriate brace that night.
However, this will be a very different Dulwich side, out for revenge this evening, one still smarting from Saturdays’ controversial 2-0 defeat away to Lewes that stymied hopes of opening up a 6-point gap over the rest of the chasing pack.
Though still in the bottom half of the table, since the two clubs last met, the Police have hit the gas pedal picking up a creditable 1-1 draw on a long road trip into deepest Suffolk to take on Leiston. They followed that up with victory over two of the sides languishing in the drop zone. first victims Enfield Town who had capricious nonleague managerial icon and erstwhile Dulwich Hamlet playing legend, George Borg, dismissed from the bench after comments made to the officials following his own side’s equaliser just before the break. A dominant second half performance from the Police however put paid to any hopes of a further revival from the E’s as two unanswered goals sealed the points. Last Saturday saw all but doomed Cray Wanderers travel to Imber Court and such is the parlous state of the Wands, now 13 points adrift of safety in last spot that the match day coach might have been swapped for a hearse. Showing no clemency to the condemned men the Police ran riot in the first half scoring five goals with reply, taking their foot off the pedal in the second half as their cruised to a 7-1 win, to all intents and purposes reading the last rites to Cray’s slim chances of survival in the Premier Division.
