Time to look back over the press...

Time to look back over the press...

Here's the round-up over the last fortnight

Going back to Sunday 19th July, there was coverage of our pre-season game at home to Charlton Athletic the day before in the weekly "Non League Paper":

DULWICH GIVE ADDICKS A SCARE

Dulwich more than held their own against a strong Charlton Athletic team containing a number of first-team regulars.
The Addicks scored from their first attack as Joe Aribo cut inside to score a 15th minute opener.
Dulwich continued to press but fell two goals behind a minute from the break when Johnnie Jackson thumped home from the edge of the box.
Nyren Clunis hit the post for Dulwich soon after the break before Jake Sinclair converted at the far post to make it 3-0 on 68 minutes.
Ashley Carew converted a penalty for the hosts two minutes later after Damian Scannell was brought down before Jamie Mascoll cut the deficit to one three minutes from time.
STAR MAN: Danny Waldren (Dulwich Hamlet)
ENTERTAINMENT: *****

Two days later, on the Tuesday, in the midweek edition of the "South London Press" there was a large report of the same match, mainly reported from a Charlton perspective:

HERE'S JOHNNY
Jackson grabs his first goal since his return from injury and gets a rest

Johnnie Jackson notched his first goal of pre-season on Saturday-and it ensured the Charlton captain only had to play 45 minutes at Dulwich Hamlet.
The Addicks were due to send an U21 side for the friendly against the Ryman Premier Division outfit but a number of first-teamers were on show in SE22.
With Charlton's fixture later that evening in Belgium on a 3G surface-they lost 4-0 to Sint Truiden- any players at risk of picking up injuries were sent back home.
And it meant that U21 boss Jason Euell was able to play Jackson, Igor Vetokele, Chris Solly, Alou Diarra, Chris Solly and Rhys Wiggins.
But if the aim was to avoid unnecessary knocks it was not wholly successful.
Goalkeeepr Stephen Henderson was named in the starting 11 but was withdrawn during the warm-up.
And Rhoys Wiggins came off with an injury too. The left-back was down on the turf-hands covering his face-for a lengthy period of time before heading down the tunnel.
Euell said: "With Hendo it was just a precaution. He had a little tweak in Belgium. We thought he'd be ok for Saturday but at this time of year you don't want to risk it. Rhoys landed awkwardly on his ankle. It's too early to assess, hopefully over the next few days we'll find out. That's the risk you run-it can happen any time of the year. We're trying to build a strong enough squad so that if these things happen we can fill the gaps."
Jackson, missing from first-team action since February with a leg injury, built on the 45 minutes of action he had at KRC Genk in midweek.
He smashed into the top corner just before the break as Charlton headed in with a 2-0 lead. Triallist Joe Aribo, from Staines Town, opening the scoring.
Euell said: " I told Jacko: 'you're ideally going to be playing 45 minutes because it's your second game'. He said he'd see how he went and that he might go 60. But because he made that run and scored that goal I told him: 'that's why you're not coming back out!' It's just good he's back on grass and getting game time under his belt."
Nyren Clunis hit the base of the post for Dulwich at the start of the second half while Phil Wilson tipped over Vetokele's instinctive strike.
The Addicks had a number of triallists on show and former Southampton attacker Jake Sinclair-the younger brother of Aston Villa's Scott- converted at the back post from a delicious Josh Staunton cross.
"Because it's a development squad we want to give people opportunities," said Euell. "If they can add to our squad and better it then that's what we do. It's trying to get the right people who can fit. It's like any triallist who has come from a pro club or non league-they are good enough to get through the door. We just want to see a little bit more to give them that contract."
But Dulwich had caused the visitors problems and deservedly cut the margin of defeat. Ashley Carew stroked in from the spot after Damian Scannell went down under contact from behind.
And there was a nice finish from Jamie Mascoll with three minutes remaining.
Dulwich boss Gavin Rose revealed that Danny waldren, a summer signing from Bromley, will be the club's new skipper.
He said: "He's been the captain of Bromley for the best part of four years and they've always been at the top end of the Conference South. It's natural for me to do this-he's a leader of men. Charlton had some experienced players and passed the ball well-we were getting the type of exercise we don't normally get. We acquitted ourselves really well, considering the talent we were up against. We tried to make a spectacle of it, so it wasn't one sided all the way through. We won't be makig any panic signings-maybe just a defender, for cover. We've got five more games and want to give the boys as much game time as possible. I grew up playing football with Jason since we were nine or 10. He tried to bring as strong a team as he could. We had a slice of luck with the match they had abroad. It was good for our club to see these players come down. Especially for our young players-it opens their eyes to what it is all about."

Then, two days later, on the Thursday, the weekly 'Southwark News', mentioned the fixture list for the coming campaign:

Non-League fixtures now out

Dulwich Hamlet and Fisher FC fans can start putting their travel plans for the new season in place after the publication of the 2015-16 fixture list.
Hamlet will get their third season in the Ryman Premier League underway on Saturday August 8 when Canvey Island come to Champion Hill.
Fisher, who will groundshare with Dulwich for the first part of next season, will travel to Deal Town on the same day before playing their first home fixture two days later, a Monday night game against Cray Valley.
A bumper crowd could come to Dulwich on Boxing Day when Kingstonian visit to take on Hamlet, while fisher will travel that day to take on local rivals Beckenham Town.

The following day, last Friday, the weekend copy of the 'South London Press' hit the news stands. There was just an extrmely brief mention of The Hamlet at the end of the non-league column:

Nyren Clunis, Jacob Erskine and Danny Waldren added to an own goal as Dulwich Hamlet beat Aveley 4-0 on Thursday.

Last weekend, in the 'Non League Paper', there was no mention of the Whyteleafe match. But there was an article on our friendship with Altona 93 in the monthly 'Club Development' pages:

HAMLET FLY THE FLAG IN EUROPE

While the Hammers struggled in Europe this week, the Hamlet's relationship on the continent is flying!
Premier League West Ham just about made it past Maltese side Birkirkara to progress in the Europa League in midweek but Ryman Premier Dulwich Hamlet have had a much easier ride against Hamburg side Altona 93.
In fact, the boys from south east London have struck up a wonderful relationship with the German fifth division side, so much that this season the official Altona second strip will be in the Hamlet's famous pink and blue colours.
Altona recently travelled to Champion Hill for a friendly, where 764 fans saw Dulwich lose 5-3. It is hoped the reverse fixture will be played in three years time.
The relationship came about through a chance meeting after Dulwich fan Mishi D. Morath visited Hamburg in November 2010, and took in one of Altona's games.
Morath was approached by their fanzine editor, Jan Stover, who fortunately understood English. Since then the relationship has blossomed with several supporters' matches having been played since.
Long may it continue!

There was no non-league coverage in Tuesday's 'South London Press' earlier this week; so we move on to yesterday's 'Southwark News', where there was small bit on local friendly games:

Hamlet and Fisher pre-season losses

Both Dulwich Hamlet and Fisher FC fell to defeat at the weekend as they continue their build to the opening day of the season on August 8.
The Pink and Blues travelled to Whyteleafe on Saturday and lost 4-2 in a contest where Gavin Rose gave a number of triallists a run out.
The fish lost 5-0 to Ryman Premier League side Tonbridge Angels in the Supporters Direct Shield on the same day.
Hamlet now have two pre-season games left, after the cancellation of the Chipstead game on Tuesday night, starting with Beckenham Town tonight before taking on Hayes & Yeading United away from home on Saturday.
Fisher only have tonight's fixture against Hendon before they play their season opener on Saturday week.
The News will catch up with the managers from both teams next week to get their assessment of their pre-season campaigns and hopes for the new season.

Finally, earlier today the weekend edition of the 'South London Press' was in the shops. The headline concentrated on the local League Cup draws:

League cup draw made as Dulwich and Tooting edge close to big kick-off

Dulwich Hamlet's final pre-season friendly takes place tomorrow as they make the trip to Conference South outfit Hayes & Yeading.
They were beaten 4-2 by Whyteleafe of the Ryman League Division One south last wekeend.
A side containing several triallists fell behind to a close-range Roscoe D'sane finish but new signing Damian Scannell fired across the hosts' keeper to equalise on 13 minutes.
Osa Obanwonyi headed Whyteleafe back in front but Scannell turned provider just before half-time as he crossed for fellow newcomer Jacob Erskine to volley home.
Erskine had a goal disallowed in the second half before Jensen Grant headed in for 3-2 to the home side, who made the game safe through Dam Clayton from the penalty spot.
Hamlet's trip to Ryman South side Chipstead was caleld off on Tuesday, but they were also away to Beckenham Town last night after we went to press.
Gavin Rose's side have been drawn at home to Ryman North side Thamesmead Town in the first round of the league cup on August 18.

(DHFC website note: If anyone is wondering, after the headline, our lower division rivals begin their league cup quest at home to Ryman League newcomers Phoenix Sports.)
