Tonbridge Angels 1-1 Dulwich Hamlet

Tonbridge Angels 1-1 Dulwich Hamlet

A last minute equaliser denied Dulwich victory against their fellow title challengers.

With Ashley Carew out through suspension, Jack Dixon got a rare start, whilst Albert Jarrett came into the starting line-up with Dean McDonald dropping to the bench. Otherwise, the starting line up was the same as for the Kingstonian game.

On a sodden surface, Dulwich were pegged back early on and Phil Wilson had to produce a tremendous save to keep out a 3Rd minute effort from Luke Blewden. Dulwich then had to scramble the ball away from the resulting corner,

Tonbridge thought they had taken a 12th minute lead but the effort was disallowed for offside. Blewden fired a 16th minute effort across goal & Nick Wheeler fired a 23rd minute shot just wide. Phil Wilson held another effort from the dangerous Wheeler, whilst Luke Allen also fired wide after good play from Wheeler and Elder.

Dulwich were not being seen as an attacking threat other than two Dixon efforts that were well off target. However, they almost went in front in the 33rd minute when Ryan Moss got his head to a floated free kick before the out rushing di Bernardo but his goalbound header hit Laurence Ball.

Dulwich had a further narrow escape two minutes from the break as Phil Wilson raced out of his b9x to thwart Elder after he had been played onto space behind the Dulwich defence.

Half Time 0-0

The second half was to be very different from the first and Jack Dixon should have given Dulwich a 51st minute lead but he shot straight at di Bernardo after the ball fell to him in the 6 yard box.

Nyren Clunis shot just wide after a good run and a dangerous cross from Albert Jarrett just failed to pick out Clunis at the far post. Ryan Moss thought he had given Dulwich the lead in the 67th minute when he latched on to a through ball from Clunis but was denied by a close offside call.

Dulwich took the lead in the 74th minute as a Damian Scannell corner was headed in by Mitchell Nelson.

The Hamlet now looked the lmore likely winners and Moss fired inches wide and di Bernardo saved from Rhys Murrell-Williamson, whilst Tonbridge wasted a good opportunity from a free kick on the edge of the box.

Wilson held a header from Elder but he was not to be denied. With the game entering stoppage time, a short free kick on the Dulwich right saw a great cross delivered into the box that Elder flicked home.

Dulwich still had a chance to win it but Jack Dixon just failed to reach a ball at the far post.

Final Score 1-1
