What the papers said today...

What the papers said today...

With the holiday season over our two local newspapers were back with a bang today

The 'South London Press' non-league column led with ourselves, Gavin grabbing the headline:

Rose wants to keep his prized trio

Dulwich Hamlet boss Gavin Rose has revealed that there is Premier League and Championship interest in Daniel Carr, Erhun Oztumer and Xavier Vidal, writes Richard Cawley.
But the Champion Hill chief does not want to lose any of the trio during the January transfer window. Former Reading winger Carr has scored 14 goals in 12 matches since being switched to a striking role while winger Oztumer -who quit as a pro in Turkey to be back nearer his family-has chipped in with 17 goals in 23 games.
Rose said: "We'd like to hold onto our boys through January if we can to give us the best chance of competing in the league, which is so tight. If someone comes in for them at the end of the season then we would give them our blessing as a club. It's the normal attention from clubs but we're not trying to focus on that and concentrate instead on the boys progressing."
Dulwich are top of Ryman Division One South and Rose won the Manager of the Month award for December-scored 13 goals and conceded just three as they banked four wins. Rose also collected the accolade in November but said: "It is a surprise because it isn't really a focus of mine. I'm grateful, of course, but the most pleasing thing is the boys have been playing really well. Winning a Manager of the Month award was the least of my thoughts."
Dulwich extended their unbeaten run to 11 matches with a 2-2 draw against Tooting & Mitcham on New Year's Day in front of a crowd of 650. Rose puts the form down to the side shedding the disappointment of promotion play-off defeats in the past two season: "We were very unfortunate not to go up in the last couple of years and a lot of people were feeling sorry for themselves-we had to clear the decks. We've turned to a lot of younger lads and there is now a really positive mindset. That is definately something that has helped us"

The "Southwark News" hit the newsstands this morning too, a day later than usual due to the holidays after a week off, & they led their non-league coverage with the game against Tooting on Tuesday:

Derby deadlock in Dulwich New Year battle

A pulsating New Year's Day derby ended honours even as Hamlet bagged their seventh point in a busy Christmas and New Year period.
(By John Prendergast)
Erhun Oztumer gave the home side the lead on the half hour mark, but Tooting were ahead at the break thanks to dead ball efforts from Dominic Vose and Nathan Koo-Boothe.
However parity was restored by striker Daniel Carr soon after the restart but the decisive winner didn't come before the final whistle.
Hamlet gaffer Gavin Rose said: "It was a local derby so there was plenty of passion but there was some sophistication too. It was something of a different challenge for us that a team wanted to take us on and play and it took awhile to come to terms with that. But I think it was a fair result, we could have nicked it at the end but then so could they."
Hamlet enter the New Year on top of the Ryman League South leading nearest rivals Maidstone United by two points have played a couple of fixtures more than the Kent side.
Having had no game at all between December 8 and Boxing Day Hamlet ended up picking up seven points from a possible nine in the three games since then.
On Boxing Day a solitary Daniel Carr goal secured the win in tough conditions against Chipstead and just three days later Dulwich secured a more routine away victory defeating Worthing.
This time an Erhun Oztumer hat-trick, plus a Nyren Clunis effort, secured the points that took Dulwich top of the league.
Rose added: "Perhaps that break was a blessing in disguise as we have a small squad and it would have been tough to play games so quickly with all the same players. It's great for fans to get games back to back but not always good for players."
A bumper crowd of 642 attended Champion Hill on New Year's Day, something Rose thinks is only helping his side. "We are playing regularly in front of about 400 at home and they make noise too." Rose said. "As a player I always felt the crowd could give you that rush of adrenalin you need when you are tiring and i think it can only help if we play in front of crowds like that."

Below that report was another on our latest player to sigh a contract:

Hamlet get Carr for Christmas

Hamlet fans got the Christmas present many wished for when hotshot striker Daniel Carr signed a contract tieing him to Champion Hill for the rest of the season. The eighteen-year-old has been an instant hit with supporters thanks to his goalscoring exploits since breaking into the first team in the last couple of months.
The teenager has scored fourteen times in twelve games, two of those where he came on as a sub, since joining up with the first eleven which led manager Gavin Rose to ask him to put pen to paper.
Rose added: "The way he has scored goals for us and progressed meant he has earned the contract we have offered him. We are aware there is a lot of interest in him, including some Premiership clubs, but we hope to have him here until the end of the season and then we are more than happy to see him go elsewhere with our blessing." He went on to state: "Most clubs who do well have a striker who scores 20 to 25 goals a season and Daniel is well on target to do that. If others can chip in goals around him then we will be in good sape. We also have another goalscorer in Frankie Sawyer who is coming back from injury so it is great for us to have players like that who will finish the chances off we create."
