Öztümer spot on as Dulwich Hamlet progress

By John Prendergast

It took two bites of the cherry but Hamlet finally made it to the second qualifying round of the FA Cup on Tuesday night, but it took a penalty shoot-out to separate them from Godalming Town.

Manager Gavin Rose told the News that over the two games there was nothing between the two sides, and in fact Godalming had exposed weaknesses in the Hamlet set up he would be working on straight away.
On the pitch a late Erhun Öztümer penalty forced a replay on Sunday after Godalming overhauled a Hamlet lead given to them by Dean Carpenter.

Once again on Tuesday the contest was nip and tuck & whilst Dulwich led twice, thanks to goals from Ellis Green and Calaum Martin, Godalming responded both times through Jamie McCurg and Ryan Lake.

Öztümer once again showed he was deadly from twelve yards in the shoot-out and skipper Lewis Gonsalves hammered home the decisive kick after keeper Phil Wilson had defied Godalming's efforts.

The diminutive Öztümer is already catching the eye of Hamlet fans with his initial displays and Rose is delighted to have him as an option after he finally received international clearance to play.

He added, "We have known him since he was fifteen at out (Aspire) academy and he had a trial at Charlton where he was deemed to be too small. His father took him out of the academy as he felt he would have a better chance in turkey due to his size and he played there for three years. He wanted to come back and it's been a bit drawn out but finally he can play. I don't care about his size at all as I feel we play a way that will mean we see the best of him. He's not fit yet and needs games but there is more to come from him and a number of young players we have at the club."

Hamlet will take on Arlesey Town, who play one level above Hamlet in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division, on September 22 in the next round of the FA Cup and will have to travel to the Bedfordshire side to progress further.
