Women's January Player of the Month

Women's January Player of the Month

Polls are open to vote for your women's Player of the Month for January 2023

You can now vote for your women's Player of the Month for January.

The spells of cold and wet weather meant we only managed to play twice in January, both in cup competitions, with a 2-0 defeat to Actonians in the Capital Senior Cup being followed up by the 2-0 success over Ebbsfleet United in the last-16 of the League Cup.

Brit Saylor continued to lead by example this month, producing a combative performance in midfield against Actonians in a close game with our higher-league opponents, before she marshalled the side brilliantly against a skilful Fleet side, regularly starting attacks with her passing range, and almost created an opener for Erin Corrigan just prior to us going ahead. After a luckless run in front of goal, Rebecca May turned on the style for the visit of Ebbsfleet, making plenty of clever runs to create chances throughout the game, before sealing the tie with a composed finish in the second half, she looks back to her instinctive best in front of goal going into the back end of the season.

Defender Beth Hartigan joined up with the squad on dual-registration this month, and has slotted in seamlessly. Making her debut off the bench against Actonians, she barely put a foot wrong, showing great composure on the ball and tremendous strength. This was followed by keeping a clean sheet on her full debut against the Fleet, which included her keeping the league top scorer Amy Russ quiet throughout the game, and made an important block to deny Lydia Wills in the second half. Ceylon Hickman provided one of the great moments of the season with her goal against Ebbsfleet, her shot from range nestling into the bottom corner and sparking joyous celebrations for her first Hamlet goal. She also played a major role in preventing Ebbsfleet from scoring in a match for the first time this season.
