You know football's back...
When the local papers start writing about The Hamlet again!
On Tuesday we led at the top of page 25 in the sport section of the 'South London Press' :
No major damage as Hayles off in Hamlet lossDulwich Hamlet saw summer signing Ricky Hayles limp off in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Hampton & Richmond Borough on Saturday.
The substitution was a precautionary move and manager Gavin Rose expects the defender to be back for Saturday’s home game against Brentford.
It needed goalkeeper Preston Edwards to be in top form to prevent the Ryman League Premier Division outfit from suffering a heavier reverse.
Harry Crawford swept their opponents into a 15th-minute lead.
Nathan Green struck the post before moving Hamlet level shortly before the break, converting after a cross was only half-cleared.
Edwards needed to make a superb stop from a Ryan Moss header. Marc Weatherstone went close to giving Dulwich a lead their play did not deserve, only to be denied by Sam Bowes.
Brendan Kiernan grabbed a winner with 10 minutes remaining, with a handball in the build-up missed by the officials.
Dulwich host a Crystal Palace XI tonight (7.30pm kick-off).

The 'Southwark News' reported on that Crystal Palace game on Thursday:
Hamlet clip Eagles wingsDulwich Hamlet claimed a Premier League scalp on Tuesday night when thery defeated south London neighbours Crystal Palace at Champion Hill.
Hamlet fell behind after just five minutes when Jordan Mutch finished from close range, but the home side, playing in front of 1,247 fans, pulled level through Dumebi Dumaka just eight minutes later.
The Isthmian League Premier Division side went in front in the 24th minute when midfield talisman Ashley Carew fired past Eagles stopper Dion Henry.
It was a young Crystal Palace side but it was a notable victory and Hamlet’s first in their pre-seasaon schedule. In the early stages it looked like they could be overwhelmed by Palace, who are six divisions above them, and it was no surprise they fell behind to Mutch’s finish.
They gradually imposed themselves on the game, though, and conjured an equaliser when Nathan Green fed Dumaka and he did well to find the net when under pressure.
That gave the home side confidence and they pressed their opponents back, almost forcing a penalty when Gavin Tomlin’s effort appeared to strike an arm in the area, before Henry denied Damaka a second. It was another neat move that deid lead to Hamlet’s second, when Ralph Kottoy combined with Tomlin who found Carew, and he beat a defender before finishing past Henry.
Henry then saved from Nyren Clunis twice in a minute as Rose’s side threatened to cut loose, while at the other end Preston Edwards was relieved to see Jason Lokilo’s free-kick just miss the post. Five minutes into the second half it was Dumaka and Carew exchanging passes to send Tomlin through on goal, but he shot wide with just Henry in front of him.
Still Dulwich pushed forward and Kottoy missed another chance, before Caio Guimares saw his attempted through ball to Clunis intercepted. Green also had an effort saved.
It was Edwards’ turn to save his side when he kept out a free-kick from Jacob Berkeley. Palace pressed for a late leveller, but Sanchez Ming and Marc Weatherstone helped keep Hamlet in front with last-ditch tackles. And Hamlet finished on the front foot, but Nana Boakye-Yiadom couldn’t put the icing on the cake as his snapshot went just wide.
While on Friday the 'South London Press' ran with one of our possible new players:
Ex-Lion Marv is on Hamlet trialFormer Millwall midfielder Marvin Elliott could be set for a return to South London football at Dulwich Hamlet.
The Wandsworth-born ex-Lion came through the Den youth ranks before signing for Bristol City in 2007.
And Elliott, 32, has been training with Dulwich and featured in their friendly defeat against Crawley Town, his last professional club.
“He hasn’t played for about two years,” said Hamlet manager Gavin Rose. “He had an injury and has been doing some work off the field. I know him and he asked if he could come in and train. He played particularly well against Crawley but then pulled his hamstring. He’ll be out for at least another two weeks. But the door is more than open for him to come in. He is a good player and a local boy. Marvin has got a wealth of experience to offer, if he can keep his body ticking over. He is a very fit lad even though he hasn’t played for so long. But it doesn’t matter if you are in tip-top condition when you haven’t done certain movements for a significant period – it will make you more susceptible to these strains. Some of it is mental, whether he wants to go through it all again.”
Another new face in the training group is Jeff Goulding. He played for Rose at Fisher Athletic before joining Bournemouth in 2008. The 33-year-old lists Cheltenham Town, Aldershot Town and Dover Athletic amongst his former clubs.
“We’ve got nothing to lose with people like that coming in,” said Rose. “We will be patient to see if he can get up to full fitness. He has always been quite lean and that gives you a chance of getting back to where you were. Jeff lost his dad, who had been the main supporter of his football over the years. He watched every game he had. Jeff did not have the motivation to carry on going. With football, him and his dad had shared that together. He engrossed himself in work but misses it. He’s still young enough to play and doesn’t want to have any regrets.”
