Young Lion Swaps The Den For The Hill
Midfielder Alfie Allen arrives from Millwall
The Hamlet have signed another young midfielder ahead of 2023-24, with ex-Millwall man Alfie Allen arriving at the club.
The 20-year-old was released by the Lions at the end of the 2022-23 campaign having come through the club’s academy. The move to the Hamlet will give him the opportunity to make his first appearance in senior football.
Alfie played in 25 of Millwall’s 28 league games in the Professional Development League South Division in 2022-23, starting in 23 of those, with only teammates Chin Okoli and Niino Adom-Malaki playing in more, as the young Lions finished as champions of the division.
In the end-of-season playoffs, Alfie played all 120 minutes in the semi-final as Millwall beat North Division runners-up Hull City 4-3 after extra time, before repeating that feat in the final against Sheffield United, as the Lions earned the overall title by winning 2-1.
“I’m looking forward to taking the next step in my career into men’s football, which I have not experienced before, and seeing how things pan out.” said Alfie.
“The fact that Dulwich are also a big club at this level and should be playing higher also helped me make the decision to come here and the passion of the coaches.”
“When Hak and Terry got in contact, I came down to the ground to meet them and got a good feeling about them, I then went and did some research and looked at their history, they have huge experience and they know how to get promotions.”
“I had a really good season last year and now I’m looking at the next step as a positive one and after two trophies last year, hopefully I can win another one, or promotion during the new season.”
“I’d say I’m more of a technical midfielder, I can keep possession and play that final pass, and either start an attack or finishing it by getting a shot off and getting in dangerous positions. At Millwall I was playing a deeper role but I can also play box to box.”
"Alfie is a young lad that Hakan and I have monitored for a while, we watched him a few times at Millwall last year and he impressed us every time." added Terry Harris.
"Initially we were trying to get him to join us on loan at Maidstone and I am really excited to have him on board now."
"He's a young lad who has progressed through the ranks, he has great energy and great legs to get around the pitch, and can put a tackle in too when he has to, but is also one who can really play too, so it is without doubt a positive signing for us."
