Football at The Oval tonight-Owzat?
Dulwich-based side The Wanderers take part in a big charity gsme tonight at the home of cricket, in a re-staging of the very first 1872 FA Cup Final!
The Wanderers, a re-formed side who took the historic name in 2009, they model themselves on the original FA Cup winners, & who play at Belair Park, in West Dulwich, take on their 1872 opponents Royal Engineers, in a charity football match at home of Surrey County Cricket Club, at the Kennington Oval tonight, with a 7.00pm kick off.
A number of Hamlet fans are already planning to go along to the game, to cheer on our lower placed neighbours, who compete in the Surrey South Eastern Combination Junior Four division.
And there IS a link between Dulwich Hamlet & The Wanderers...as we have met before.
Albeit our Supporters' side, who played them in a match at Coldharbour Sportground, back on Sunday 19th September 2010, with "The Rabblers" triumphing by the odd goal in eleven, thanks to a hat-trick from Ian Gannon & a brace from the boots of Steve Thorn. Our team that day was: Matt Hammond; Robbie McClintock; Steve Rickerby; Jon Tennison; Mishi Morath; Phil Doyle; Andy “Chas” Chaney; Steve Thorn; Ian Gannon; Mick O’Shaughnessy & Paul Verrico.
Tonights venue, of the famous Kennington Oval, has staged many an Isthmian League encounter down the year, but not for half a century or so! Corinthian-Casuals had the cricket ground as their home ground from 1950 until 1963, before moving on to our very own Champion Hill, which they used as their base, from 1963 until 1968.
